Brendan Fraser remains the soul of the series, bringing his familiar mix of rugged charm and comedic timing as Rick O’Connell. However, the absence of Rachel Weisz’s Evelyn is keenly felt—Maria Bello steps in gamely, but the chemistry that once anchored the adventure doesn’t quite ignite here. Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh add welcome gravitas and martial arts prowess, giving the film a new energy whenever they’re on screen. Rob Cohen’s direction emphasizes fast-paced action and dazzling set pieces—from avalanches to undead armies—but the film sometimes feels more like a roller coaster than a cohesive story. The CGI-heavy finale and rushed emotional beats make it clear that the series’ formula is starting to show its age. Still, there’s fun to be had: the globe-trotting spirit remains alive, and the film’s embrace of Chinese mythology gives it a unique texture, even if the execution doesn’t always soar. Verdict: The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor is a decent, if uneven, adventure—less a thrilling resurrection and more a final echo of what once made the franchise great.
