At times both surreal and frightening, this American indie sci-fi/horror film follows a couple trapped in a mysterious and dangerous time loop. The marriage of Jen (Dana Berger, "Orange Is the New Black", "Elementary") and Dan (Max Woertendyke, "Succession") is on the rocks, with Jen seriously considering ending it for good. But when the pair go on a daytime jog in an attempt to hash things out, they soon find themselves running in circles around a pond as the exit trail vanishes and they repeatedly return to the same spot. Being stuck together in an endless loop would be bad enough, but when a silent hooded killer appears and starts tracking them down, the couple must figure out how to survive -- together or apart.

This is intelligent, scrappy film-making that should lead to bigger things for both cast and crew. Go to Full Review

Berger and Woertendyke make their characters engaging and appropriately irritating. Go to Full Review

It’s also a film that lives or dies on the strength of its two central (and only) performances, but luckily both Woertendyke and Dana Berger are more than up to the challenge. Go to Full Review

...making the best of a low-fi aesthetic, and with two game actors who are prepared to shift up and down the gears, Brightwood should be filed alongside the best unsettling sci-fi…it’s anything but a simple walk in the park... Go to Full Review
Clement Tyler Obropta Film Inquiry 11/18/2023
The feature, adapted from a short that Elcar made previously, retains that short-film vibe to it, but the doomed relationship at the core gives this story a good ticking time bomb element, and I’m always game to see a time loop story done well. Go to Full Review

Leland K Jul 27 A movie where a woman nags, bullies, and bosses her guy around (represented as super dumb), who just takes the abuse and still says he loves her. This is another example of the toxic form of femininity currently popular in the latest movies. (Which we aren't allowed to talk about.) If you like the idea of women bullying guys you might like this movie. Some see this type of behavior as empowering. See more Ann Marie C Jul 18 The intriguing concept seem to be a metaphor for the toxic relationship between the two main characters that neither felt they could escape from. In the end, I felt more disgusted than disturbed. A strong effort. See more Bevie W Jun 22 Loved it .. brilliant.. a must see 👍 See more Rich C @Cordu0702 Jun 8 Decent film. Didn't quite get there for me. See more Edward B May 29 I waited over 30 minutes for something to happen & 2 bad actors did almost nothing. Spoiler alert: after an hour in she says “an alien time alternating device” & made me realize I was watching the worst low budget thriller made in the last 10 years. I decided to watch the ending which was not a surprise, they lived forever changed by this experience stuck in a time loop. Boring. See more Beth W 11/02/2024 An intriguing representation of how we cannibalize ourselves throughout time and relationships. Surprised by the reviews that said nothing was explained, I thought everything was. Worth the watch for sure. See more Read all reviews
