A father (Sergi López) and his son arrive at a rave deep in the mountains of southern Morocco. They are searching for Mar -- daughter and sister -- who vanished months ago at one of these endless, sleepless parties. Surrounded by electronic music and a raw, unfamiliar sense of freedom, they hand out her photo again and again. Hope is fading, but they push through and follow a group of ravers heading to one last party in the desert. As they venture deeper into the burning wilderness, the journey forces them to confront their own limits.

There is plenty to appreciate in Laxe’s film, which wrestles aggressively with ideas of grief and catharsis. Unfortunately, the intensity he brings when telling Luis’s story ultimately undoes the film, hammering in these themes with punishing insistence.

I had heard that the film was difficult to follow, and that it was essentially a tortuous and unreadable experience. Nothing could be further from my experience. It is a truly intense yet deeply moving and meaningful film, prophetic in it's vision of our time and space - with a view into the Mystery of eternity, as well. A refreshingly human story that is OUR story, filled with touching moment as well as shocking horror. A must see but be warned that it does not pull any punches. Nor should it.
