Nikki Gemmell The Australian Feb 3
3.5/5
It’s not going to set the world on fire, but it’s fun, sexy and thoroughly enjoyable. It’s also informative about the frustrations and wonders of existing with neuro-dazzlement, and what happens when drugs quell the vividness. Go to Full Review

With a vibrant cast (it’s worth stating plainly: Palmer is excellent) and an ambitious conceit, this valiant adaptation is hardly algebraic -- but achieves different artistry embracing the imperfect. Go to Full Review

Grace is a strong central character who could easily have anchored either a bubbly rom-com or a more sombre look at her struggles. But Addition never gives anyone else in her orbit enough air to breathe Go to Full Review
David Griffiths Subculture Entertainment Feb 5
2.5/5
While an okay romantic drama it never reaches the heights it should. Grace's condition is never fully explored and it lacks the tension that it needs. It is saved by Teresa Palmer's brilliant performance. Go to Full Review
Cris Kennedy Inner East Review Feb 2

It is, I think, sensitively done, and the comedic writing, the 'com' of the rom-com, doesn't belittle Grace or her condition. Go to Full Review

[Dempsie’s] character is underwritten in such a hollow and weird way. He’s just endlessly supportive, and I guess for some people that really is a fantasy. But on the other hand, I want in a rom-com a meeting of minds, of people who like each other. Go to Full Review

B D @bernied99 Feb 6 The best Aussie film I have seen in a long time. I actually teared up a bit - something I never do. Beautiful See more John H @Hanza Feb 4 Addition explores the inner world of Grace, a young woman living with a compulsive need to count numbers, a behaviour that quietly governs her daily life. This fixation becomes more complex when she meets Sheamus and the two enter into a sexual relationship, one that appears intended to challenge Grace’s routines and sense of control. While the premise is intriguing, the film ultimately feels thin. Character development is limited, with Grace being the only figure given any real depth or nuance. By contrast, Sheamus remains underdeveloped, and the relationship between them feels unconvincing, as they appear to share little in common beyond physical intimacy. The film does succeed in conveying the impact of Grace’s compulsion on her inner life and behaviour. Despite a strong central performance, the limited development of the surrounding characters and relationships left the film feeling underwhelming and, ultimately, disappointing. See more Vivien B Feb 2 I found this movie highly irritating and contradictory. The lead actress managed to be a quirky, sexy, adventurous partner yet at the same time dealing with a serious anxiety disorder. The relationship between Seamus and the lead actress had little bass except having sex. I think it was offensive to any intelligent man . As if sex excuses being treated abysmally .Not realistic. The characters were not engaging or believable. Don't waste your money. I wouldn't even watch it on free TV. See more Julie F @julzf Jan 31 I'm not sure I'd call this a rom com - it's a sympathetic portrait of someone dealing with an obsessive disorder - but it's beautifully shot, acted, directed, and offers insights into both romance and efforts to control fear. I recommend you bypass the critics and see this gem of a film which is mostly, by the way, the work of talented women. And Joe Dempsie's character is far from boring! See more Read all reviews
