Beyond the lore, the documentary also delves into Brooks' personal life... This approach humanizes the man without diminishing his greatness, showing a man who, at 99, still understands laughter as a bridge to connection and joy. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

What sets The 99 Year Old Man! apart from the current glut of entertainment icon docs is that Brooks' comedic ideas were incendiary 60 years ago and they're just as incendiary now, even though the culture has evolved dramatically in that time. Go to Full Review

The commentary by dozens of admirers and career-highlight TV and movie snippets are great of course, nostalgic but purposeful, meaningful in the context of Brooks’ life and influence on showbiz. Go to Full Review

Spencer M 4h Fascinating. Mel Brooks is brilliant. Really made me miss Gene Wilder, Madeline Kahn and Cloris Leachman. See more John H @jfh1107 5h I really wanted to like this more than I did. I would love to have heard more behind-the-scenes stories and accounts of what it was actually like making each film (and the Broadway show). It coasts over these things and instead just lets Mel ramble about pretty much whatever he wants. He's sort of a one-note character and it gets tired before Part 2 is over. See more Christian P @IncertaVeritas 10h "Sometimes it is the people no one imagines anything of who do the things that no one can imagine." This is a quote is from a great movie, but it perfectly fits Mel Brooks, he's still shining at 99, that mischievousness that has always defined him still lives on. Loved this documentary, we saw the real man behind the living legend. Thank you Mel! See more Esther N @Invisigoth 1d This is one of the best documentaries I've seen, both revealing and touching. Mel Brooks, with all odds against him, rose to fame by shining a light on bigotry, mysoginy, and government corruption with humor and intelligence. His movies never spoke down to anyone and, while controversial to some, pulls back the curtain on current events. Season 1 begins with Brooks' early life growing up in a Jewish community and his connection to the Catskills Borscht Belt. He worked with some of the best and brightest in the business but faced challenges in getting noticed until Carl Reiner recorded the 2000 Year-Old Man with him. It wasn't the breakthrough he needed but put him on the map. Season 1 takes through his earliest works with Your Show of Shows up to The Producers and Blazing Saddles. Great interviews including his sons, Gene Wilder, and Rob Reiner :'( It's a must see for any fan of Brooks, his movies, and the comedians he inspired. See more Robert M @Rmart0101 1d What a great deep dive into Mel Brooks career and life. The Reiner cameos are heartwarming and sad. See more Sarah H. @DalekSarah 2d I'm a huge Mel Brooks fan and this was such an inspiring documentary. "Rhetoric does not get you anywhere... But if you can bring these people down with comedy, they stand no chance." See more Read all reviews
