The goal of any adaptation must be to send viewers to the book. The show will do that well enough with its lush directing, its precocious performances and its unsettling score, shifting from sweet, sunny strings to a jagged discordant fiddle. Go to Full Review

It may centre children, but this is, of course, far from a children's story – yet by the same token, it's a series made for the most enlightening kind of family viewing, from which all generations can really take something. Go to Full Review

True, I think it would have benefited from being a tad shorter but it is an extremely classy adaptation which, I imagine, will please Golding purists and newcomers alike. Go to Full Review

If we want to experience Lord of the Flies as it is in its written form, Golding’s novel is there. If we want to experience it in a way that would only be possible on TV... we could do a lot worse than Thorne's daring and inventive adaptation. Go to Full Review

[David McKenna is] simply astonishing as the clever, witty, vulnerable and ultimately tragic Piggy... It’s hard to believe this kid had never acted before now. Go to Full Review

There is a real sense of innovation on display here, buoyed by the addition of a phenomenal soundtrack by Cristobal Tapia de Veer, and a haunting theme from Hans Zimmer and Kara Talve. Go to Full Review

Giorgia G @MargotT 4d This four-episode TV show is a must-watch. The atmosphere, photography, and incredible playing of these young actors are stunning. One on top of the others is David McKenna, who demonstrates incredible maturity and intensity on the stage. See more Matteo B @Benda 5d A breathtaking adaptation. This is one of the most accurate book-based series of all time: the cast and the crew have brought a very similar version of the story told in the book, but also (which is very important in this kind of series) the brutal atmosphere, with an incredible view of the event. The music was perfect and the shot composition also: every frame is effective and it draws you into the whole thing. The cast was very brilliant (a good good job considering the average cast age) and the setting was very realistic. Personally I’d have preferred a deeper look at the Lord of the Flies character (the boys’ introspection portrayed in the severed pig head) but the work done is already very good. A brutal view of the human nature. Very worth seeing. See more Daniel L 6d Terrible woke trash. Shocking writing, shocking casting and shocking acting The original movie is perfect. An adaptation was not necessary. This pathetic monstrosity should never have been allowed. See more James H @Jahmaster Feb 20 I kept thinking what a great shot but then the great shot would turn into a mastibatory over stylised gush that killed the flow of the plot and broke any tension that had been building. Less is more and this was MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE and therefore less... For me the horror of the novel is missed by a director over cooking everything... See more Mark C @MarkoCo Feb 12 I thought this was a superb adaption. I found the score really added to the unsettled themes. The casting of Piggy and Simon was superb...both young actors were brilliant. The lingering death of Piggy was difficult to watch. Heartbreaking. Whilst I disagree with the premise of the book (it says about Golding than it does the about the human condition), it's a great story told well. See more Dul U @Dulume Feb 11 The casting is impeccable. I really like the acting. The music is great. The overall direction is good and faithful to the book. But... the cinematography is atrocious. The grotesque use of fish eye lenses is sickening. If today a cinematographer is the guy with the latest iPhone and that he uses it to shoot his material, I'm going to stop watching. It's unbelievable to have so much qualities and to ruin it entirely with such ugly and tacky visuals. It's truly a shame. See more Read all reviews
