Yu-Gi-Oh! Reviews
I find it to be enjoyable not as an action-packed and immersive anime filled with cool monsters battling each other, but as this mindless cheesy movie where you can turn off your brain and just have fun with the goofiness of the situations and the acting.
Full Review | Original Score: 6/10 | Dec 8, 2023
Effectively a strategy guide and commercial in vaguely filmic form.
Full Review | Jul 28, 2014
Only fans of the series will be able to follow the largely incomprehensible plot -- and the bog-standard animation won't win it any new ones.
Full Review | Original Score: 2/5 | Jul 28, 2014
A 90-minute advert in search of a storyline.
Full Review | Original Score: 1/5 | Jul 28, 2014
The artwork has the familiar saucer-eyed look of Japanese anime but with a scuffed angularity that's a long way from Hayao Miyazaki's sublime magic.
Full Review | Jul 28, 2014
More infomercial than movie. For series fans only.
Full Review | Original Score: 2/5 | Dec 29, 2010
Feature-length animated movie based on the television series, and Manga comic book of the same name, is like watching a Japanese video game being played on a movie screen.
Full Review | Original Score: C | Apr 18, 2009
It's essentially an advertisement for a similarly titled trading card game.
Full Review | Oct 18, 2008
The popular kiddie cartoon show comes to the big screen, looking exactly like a TV cartoon blown up to colossal proportions.
Full Review | Original Score: 1/5 | Aug 7, 2008
While this probably constitutes a good tutorial in the trading-card game's lingo and lore, it's tremendously boring to watch an animated series in which most of the fighting doesn't even involve combat, just characters looking at cards.
Full Review | Original Score: 1.5/4 | Jan 8, 2007
Like the gods, the trading cards are capricious, with ever-changing rules and strategies so intricate that only Yu-Gi-Ohlogists will fully enjoy this adventure.
Full Review | Jan 8, 2007
Like Harry Potter, Shrek and Spider-Man, it will become part of the currency of grade and middle school conversation.
Full Review | Original Score: 2.5/4 | Nov 17, 2006
Yu-Gi-Oh translates from the Japanese into 'Intense migraine in elders.'
Full Review | Original Score: 0/5 | Jul 25, 2005
Various other minuses for the uninitiated -- the changing powers of the cards, the intricate strategies of the participants, the almost-lethal nature of gameplay -- are great pluses for aficionados.
Full Review | Original Score: 3/5 | Feb 13, 2005
I suspect even children will be sophisticated enough to understand that a film should feel more alive than a trading card.
Full Review | Original Score: 0/5 | Nov 1, 2004
Looks like 'Transformers On Speed: The Autobots Take Japan.'
Full Review | Original Score: 0/4 | Sep 15, 2004
Tecnicamente limitado, o filme no esteticamente melhor do que uma animao produzida para a televiso.
Full Review | Original Score: 2/5 | Sep 3, 2004
It's Yu-Gi-Oh! The Movie, and if you're not already one of the converted than don't expect to be yelling anything other than 'Yu-Gi-No!' while trying to sit through this impenetrable mess of an animated feature.
Full Review | Original Score: 1/4 | Aug 28, 2004
A feature-length anime commercial.
Full Review | Original Score: C- | Aug 27, 2004
It's a lot like hearing the play-by-play account of a heated game of bridge. Only not half as gripping.
