Arquette has always been Hollywood’s lovable goofball, and this film embraces that fully while also showing the grit, heart, and determination behind the wild persona. One of the highlights for me was seeing Courteney Cox pop up. She’s easily in my top five actresses of all time—no debate there. It makes sense for her to appear since she’s Arquette’s ex-wife and the mother of his children, but it also grounded the film with a bit of sincerity and family connection amidst all the absurdity. What stood out most was how the documentary balanced his acting career, his personal struggles, and his unexpected detours. Arquette may have never been considered a traditional “leading man,” but in the 1990s he carved out his space, proving he could carry films and become a recognizable figure in Hollywood. It’s also fascinating to see his side hustles, creative experiments, and the lengths he went to push himself—even if the world wasn’t always taking him seriously. Of course, you can’t talk about David Arquette without talking about wrestling. The entire world lost its mind when he became WCW World Heavyweight Champion—a decision that still divides fans to this day. Sure, in hindsight it’s often called one of the worst decisions in wrestling history, especially when legends like Booker T and Goldberg were still active. But from a publicity standpoint, it was genius. Suddenly, mainstream media couldn’t stop talking about it. Arquette holding that belt put WCW in headlines across the country. They were in the middle of their war with WWF at the time, and this was the kind of stunt that kept them in the spotlight. Whether you loved it or hated it, you remembered it—and that’s the point. The documentary captures all of this with flair. It’s clever, stupid, heartfelt, funny, and completely over the top—just like Arquette himself. At times it feels like a comedy, at times like a tragedy, and at times like an underdog sports movie. And that unpredictability is exactly what makes it so watchable. Documentaries can easily lose steam if they don’t have a strong hook, but this one never does. It keeps you engaged, grounded, and invested all the way through. It’s not just about wrestling or acting—it’s about resilience, reinvention, and not letting anyone else write your story for you.
