The most haunted house in the world sits on an isolated stretch of land that's 50 miles outside of San Francisco. Built by Sarah Winchester, heiress to the Winchester fortune, it stands seven stories tall and contains hundreds of rooms. To an outsider, it looks like a monstrous monument to a disturbed woman's madness. But Sarah's actually building a prison, an asylum for hundreds of vengeful ghosts -- and the most terrifying among them have a score to settle with the Winchesters.

This was a great adventure/horror with a slight Gothic old time feel. Great actors I'm this. Jason Clark is excellent in this. This is a must see for anybody that loves the horror genre. Production is great. Acting is great. Directing is also swell.

A gothic house, a grieving heiress, and Winchester starring Helen Mirren should have been a triumph Let us speak of the accents. They are not merely bad; they are geographically untethered. A sort of haunted, theme park American that belongs nowhere on earth and certainly not San Jose, California. I am not American, yet I found myself cringing on behalf of Americans everywhere, particularly those who must live within driving distance of the actual house and endure this auditory fiction. Helen Mirren does her utmost, swathed in mourning and dignity, but even she cannot rescue a script so terribly written! The true horror is not the ghosts. It is the squandered potential. A missed opportunity of grand proportions, and a film that left me longing not for the dead, but for a competent dialect coach and a stronger script. I shall now retire to the garden to recover.

One of very few horror movies I was able to tolerate in that it wasn't all jump scares, gore, and nonsense... an actual storyline and a very pleasant ending that had some genuine emotion tied in... most of these reviews pander on about how bad it was without actually giving a legitimate reason but that's because there is no reason. If you have a heart and good taste in a story with horror mixed in well then this is the movie for you!
