End was probably what rubbed everyone the wrong way, but honestly its whatever, the movie is over and resolved. Surprised the ratings are so bad. I mean its no perfect movie, but its interesting, unique, and fun. I mean sure its a remake but if its done decent and 20 years after the original, who cares. Not one thing about this film is better than the original. It doesn't do anything new, and most of the changes are for the worse. If the 1990 version just did not exist at all and this was a made for TV or straight to streaming film, it would be a decent film. I will say that I liked Kate Beckinsale at least equally as much as Sharon Stone as Lori, but other than that it's not really worth watching over the original in any way. See more Blu B Nov 7 It's terrible compared to the 1990 original. On it's own AT BEST this a run of the mill Sci-Fi action flick that looks like every medicore 21st Century Sci-Fi flick. What makes this so inferior to the original? At it's core it lacks the tounge in cheek humor, fun, memorable characters, amazing distinct special effects, and distinct direction. This strips it away and tries to go like a Nolan Dark Knight Trilogy or Bounre Trilogy gritty grounded realisitic action and taking itself super serious the entire time. But for me the death blow is what makes the 1990 classic so good is you don't know for sure whether it's a dream or real and your having fun no matter what. This is soooo obvious it's not real the entire time and doesn't leave it to the imagination. The over the top action, the fact he's a super soldier out of nowhere, the almost comical "movie convience" timing when someone arrives at just the knick of time, and just how farfetched the whole thing is. It makes it instead a run of the mill Sci-fi movie with an intrigiuing Matrix like plot. The cinematography is nowhere near as good and honestly i sjust bad. It's lifeless, too dull, lacks any distinctness, the action scenes are oversaturated with CGI, are too over the top beleivable and clash with the asetics of a film that takes itself so serious. The acting is subpar also. Yeah Farrel is handsome and all but everyone is super serious, has hardly any emotion, and my god there are plot expose dumbs in this multiple times that are sooooooo boring to sit through and completely unneeded. The suporting cast is super forgettable. The music is super forgettable as well. Editing isn't bad as it makes perfect sense and follows the same beats of the first but the fight scenes go on way too long at times and sometimes feel like they are edited in a way just to show off like the 360 fight at the start. This all leads to terrible pacing as the twist is already given away and sooo obvious the entire time. The direction is sooo basic and again, lacks almost any tangibility with it's world because so much is just CGI and dull sets that lack any character. Skip this.
