Balder A @balderandersen 1d Really great movie with a good message but it feels like, it's a bit too long and some things don't come out clear and I am left with the feeling of "what exactly did they want to say?" at some points. But it's produced well and overall, I think it's good at telling the overall story. See more Brett A @RT68149528 Dec 10 This documentary did not age well. While it offered some worthwhile information, its alarm over "hoaxes" and "conspiracies" ultimately fell flat, as many claims it dismissed later turned out to be true. A U.S. Senator even joked, "Seems to me we need some new conspiracy theories. All of the old ones have turned out to be true." In that sense, social media proved more helpful than harmful—often exposing errors in narratives promoted by so-called experts. There are real concerns about surveillance and privacy, yet instead of focusing on them, the documentary leaned into its own ideological propaganda. It never acknowledged that the real danger in technology has never been the technology itself. The wayward human heart is the true existential threat. From the wheel to the computer chip, every innovation has been used for both good and evil. The threat is not tech, but the bad actors who misuse it—and the only remedy is for good actors to wield it well. I don’t think the point of the movie is to convince anyone of anything…I think this movie assumes that you already agree with the statement that “social media is bad for you” and then attempts to show you just HOW bad it is. In that regard, it was very effective. See more Leaburn O @RT35452347 Jun 9 Starts well, in a focused manner but soon deteriorates into some pretty daft theorising and preposterous solutions being aired by the talking heads who, strangely, don’t seem to recognise that they exist in an echo chamber of their own.
