What to Know

Critics Consensus

Leveraging Ben Affleck and Matt Damon's classic chemistry to texturize a friendship tested by greed, The Rip tears into its potboiler setup with compulsively watchable confidence.

The Rip seems highly possible until its overblown climatic end, but even when it succumbs to the action thriller norms, it and the cast always keeps you thoroughly entertained. Go to Full Review

Joe Carnahan's crime thriller feels like a nice throwback to '90s genre pictures, but it pulls a few too many punches. Go to Full Review

I was entertained, even if for the longest stretches I couldn’t have told you who was doing what to whom. Chalk it up as yet another twist in the tale of Matt ‘n’ Ben – two Yin/Yang talents who will be yoked together for eternity. Go to Full Review
Dan Buffa Ramble On With Buffa (Substack) 2d
While Affleck burrows himself in the role of a blunt yet noble cop, it’s Damon who gives the best performance in the film as the Lieutenant who has to decide what to do and how to locate a snitch. They're aging like fine wine. Go to Full Review

It all sits on the most medium level of meat and potatoes genre fare without ever doing anything good, bad or weird enough to risk that watchable yet forgettable status. Go to Full Review

Mark O. @mark520 25m 9/10 new school take on a old idea of dirty cops very well done See more Sanele C @Sanza 4h I don't have have enough words for this movie, it's SOOO BRILLIANT AND MIND-BLOWING. Ben Affleck and Matt Damon definitely make a good team in all their films, I love these guys, they're really really cool. The interrogation scene inside the Fed's transport vehicle is sooo cold 🥶🏆💯💯 I loved it. This movie is something out of this world!!👏💯 🏆🔥 See more Elizabeth K. @BKBK2222 6h Couldn’t finish. Turned it off after 30 minutes. Stupidly repetitive. See more Brad V @Bradv87 19h Look it's ok, they really should have set it in the 80s or something as it's just not believable in present day (now that I write that I presume it was) Damon's big plan also had more holes in it than Swiss cheese and could have fallen apart very very easily but everyone just happened to say the right things at the right time. It's a movie you can get through which is a good start for a movie these days See more Seniah B. @SeniahB 21h Buried within all the over the top police schtick was an interesting plot twist. And good actors. See more Annie C @ACoup 21h While it started slow IMO, once it got going it was really good. I hate a movie where you have it all figured out before the end of the movie. There were points where I thought "oh yah, I have this figured out" but I so didn’t. It kept you guessing. Very action packed and comes to a tight end with no loose ends left untied. This movie was well packed with well known and loved names. Matt and Ben have amazing chemistry when costarring together. Overall good movie and I would recommend. See more Read all reviews
