The Purge Reviews
Never seen characters this dumb. I know characters in horror movies are supposed have a lack common sense but wow. People in Friday the 13th look smarter than this. Terrible movie 0.5/10 don’t waste your time.
i liked the idea and im surprised it was from deMonaco, he usually doesnt pick the best actors but this was ok.
Początek super serii
The best movie ever!!
Grossly overrated by fans. Very boring and obvious. Interesting concept, lazily explored. Though, admittedly, very nostalgic and cozy.
Really good movie. Expressed emotions and all that, just no big plot and didn't keep me on edge. I love gorey and bloody films though!
“Interesting Idea, Just Didn’t Hit Like I Hoped” – 2.5/5 The Purge had me hooked with the idea alone, one night a year where all crime is legal? That’s wild. I was expecting something intense, maybe even a little thought-provoking. But instead of showing what’s going on out in the world, most of the movie just takes place inside one house. It kind of felt like a cool idea got turned into a basic home invasion movie. There are some suspenseful scenes and a few good moments, and I liked Ethan Hawke in the lead. But the characters didn’t make the smartest choices, and I was hoping the movie would explore more of the chaos outside, not just stay in one spot the whole time. I wouldn’t say it’s a bad movie, it’s watchable, and the idea is strong. But it left me wanting more. I guess that’s why they made sequels that dive deeper into the world, which honestly might be worth checking out if you liked the concept but felt this one fell short.
Unique story, action/horror/suspense movie enjoyable watch.
Just another home invasion thriller, this one particularly boring.
So incredibly slow moving and boring. The premise is interesting, which is why I checked it out. Takes forever for things to actually happen. This didn't build the suspense - just irritated the hell out of me. I kept asking myself why I was bothering to continue. I made it to the end - what a complete waste of time.
This movie is pure awful. A movie about killing for one night seriously.
Really plain boring not worth watching at all. The only reason why I am rating it 2/5 is because the daughter was hot
This movie is the best one in the series, hands down
The Purge is a classic for a good reason as its humble beginnings were actually a great service to this film. Even though the Purge is a nationwide event, the film mostly takes place in the home of a traditional American family, and the horrors that they faced there that night. The entire movie made for a stressful experience, as the horrors of humanity and politics are put on display in a very drastic way. The experience feels intimate and well-done as you don’t know who is going to live and who is going to die, who is good and who is bad, and what will happen next. None of this film felt predictable or too cheesy, it had a few comedic moments I’d say, but other than that it was just a cool movie.
I personally quite enjoyed this and is something I've only seen similar to the strangers. The purge is executed perfectly with great performances.
I can't tell whether this is a good or bad idea. I mean in theory that's a interesting idea but also it could go the way of if you do tons of crime in one day won't that just make things worse in the future as it leads to more negative feelings and actions building up every time? Maybe it needs more refinement. But what I can tell you is the way this film executes it and the finished product here is terrible. The cinematography is the crowning acheivement. It's really bad. Literally 65% of this 85 minute runtime is so dark you can barely see it. And when you can it's super basic stuff. The editing is terrible. The whole plot line of the guys breaking in feels like it leads to nothing kind of. The neighbors coming in at the end feels hammed in and during action scenes it's edited like a Bourne movie and its so dark you can barely see things so I literally can't tell what the heck is going on until the dust settles. And on top of that the family is always divided up too s it gets really jumpy. The music isn't good either. It's super generic suspense stuff and just becomes annoying as it plays constantly as things progress. The acting is suprisngly terrible as well. The kids are annoying, the purge guy is acting like he's in the Happening, the dialouge isn't good, and everyone makes dumb choices. Hawke is alright and probably the best thing here for what it's worth. And this all elads ot really bad pacing. It becomes a slog to sit through this and man I swear it feels like 2 hours. Skip This. The marketing for this was brilliant but the end product is as misleading as Kangaroo Jack.
Part horror part actio. Definitely worth the watch.
This was a good introduction to the Purge franchise because it showcases what could potentially happen in the real world. The movie opens up with one of our main characters James Sandin and he is feeling on top of the world after becoming the number one seller of the new security systems for the Purge. His family seems to be handling the purge well and they expect a quiet night until the actual purge happenend. Once the purge sirens went off, they were ready to have a peaceful night which ended in horror. During the purge, the son Charlie, sees a man crying out for help in the middle of the street and decides to unarm the security to help this man. While this is happening, Zoey's boyfriend snuck into the house to talk to her dad, and little did she know that he would pull a gun on James. James ends up killing her boyfriend and the bloody stranger manages to get away. After these set of events happened, a group of masked mercenaries show up and give James an ultimatum to give up the homeless swine or suffer at the hands of their group. It takes a while for James to capture the stranger and by this time, the masked mercenaries were tired of waiting. James had a chance to give the stranger up, but he didn't which resulted in the mercenaries pulling down their steel doors. Chaos arises and they break into the Sandins' home in which they start trying to kill them. The Sandin family kept their own, especially James because he went off by killing a lot of people with his badass shotgun that he had. Unfortunately, one of the main freaks ends up stabbing and killing James which results in the family getting overpowered by this group. The wife Mary ends up getting ambushed by two people and she is saved by her neighbors. She ends up getting back together with her family and one of the main freaks has a shotgun until Zoey blasts him to death. Everybody thought at first that they were rescued until the neighbors admitted that they wanted to kill the family and no one else would do it but them. While this is going on, James ends up dying and the family is now being tied up. Right before the neighbors are about to torture the family, the blood stranger comes in clutch and ambushes the neighbors. Mary ends up sparing their lives and she wanted to have a peaceful night and they sat at the table until 7:00 AM. Grace Ferrin one of the neighbors, decides to make one last attempt at Mary's life and she gets her nose broken. The movie ends with Mary telling the neighbors to get the hell out of her house and sirens can be heard in the background. Ethan Hawke really stood out to me in this film and I think that he did an excellent job. Overall, it is a solid introduction film and it gives me anxiety to watch it because this could be real life one day.
Just found out that people don’t like it
