In the action-comedy The Pickup, a routine cash pickup takes a wild turn when two mismatched armored truck drivers, Russell (Eddie Murphy) and Travis (Pete Davidson), are ambushed by ruthless criminals led by a savvy mastermind, Zoe (Keke Palmer), with plans that go way beyond the cash cargo. The Pickup feels like both an uninspired Eddie Murphy comedy and a lackluster effort to give a Saturday Night Live star a featured vehicle. More than anything, it's a waste of a premise that could have made for a decent buddy comedy.

I don’t agree with the other reviews at all. So much so it spurred me to create an account to review the film. It had us cracking up the entire time. Relatively quick, great cast, professionally filmed, action packed and funny. People leaving this film 1 star clearly haven’t seen genuine 1 star films. Worlds above 1 star. Don’t let the reviews stop you from giving it a watch.

The pickup feels like a movie that was filmed with an intended release in 2001, was delayed and instead released in 2025 — everything from its jokes and humor to its visuals, I’m looking at you, outdated colorful intro credits over B-roll. It does have some charm but with a boring and predictable plot and boring and predictable action, it feels like something that chat-gpt threw together in an afternoon.
