The Book Thief Reviews
This is a good film. The acting is fantastic. This is also a pretty good adaptation of the book. I recommend it.
This was a beautiful film. I found the characters and action believeable and compelling. So many films are so unrealistic - but this one really takes a viewer back to another world. I strongly recommend it.
I felt like the ending was rushed a little bit but overall a beautiful story. I loved how diffrent the characters acted. I loved the father and hid input to the movie
The film perfectly captures the characters and the setting, the acting is perfect. My only complaint is how some elements are rushed or missed out which is standard for the transfer from a book to a film
Amazing and moving film. All of the performers were amazing, it is an enduring story of the human spirit.
It's a really good movie
It was the best movie of that time
The movie was a very exciting adventure from start to finish
Maybe more than one version I ve been entertained with two . All good.
It sets out to emulate 'The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas' but fails miserably by coming off as overly romanticised and schmaltzy as well as having an ending that it uncomfortable in the opposite way to what I would guess the filmmakers intended.
Reminds us that we have a lot to be thankful for and how it can disappear in a dark cloud. Best depiction of what happened in Germany as the Nazis came to power and many people died on all sides.
This, for me, is the best movie I have ever watched in my life.
there was no plot in the movie đŸ˜¿đŸ’” they just killed off or sent a character away when it getting boring
I love this movie so much. It is a tear dropper and has some suspense. A movie that you don't want to ever stop. I've read several books about ww2 as well as several films. There nothing worse then a movie that sugar coats a story. This movie is a wonderful true story of a little Jewish girl. So go and watch the movie.
The Book Thief is the story of of a young German girl and her love of books during World War II Germany. Liesel's (Sophie Nélisse) life is turned upside down when her young brother dies and her mother gives her away to the care of foster parents, Hans and Rosa Huberman (Geoffrey Rush} and (Emily Watson) Hans teaches his new daughter to read and write with the book she has stolen at her little brother's funeral "Gravediggers Handbook" But when the Nazis band all books and have them burnt, Liesel decides to steal books. "When life robs you, sometimes you have to rob it back" - Liesel Liesel and her new Papa and Mama are getting on very well and she feels like a part of a family. But then a Jewish refugee Max Vanderburgh arrives at their door and Han's takes Max in and shelters and hides him from the Nazis. Max and Liesel become very good friends and when Max becomes ill, she reads her stolen books to him. Liezel and Max finds comfort and refuge in the pages of books. I really like seeing World War II from the German point of view...where the children in Germany must pledge allegiance to Hitler and everyone in town hangs Nazi flags and the families must hide their resistance to Hitler's evil tyranny, even the children are recruited to fight for Hitler. I do think it is odd that the movie is narrated by "death" and although there is death in the movie, I see life and hope, compassion and kindness, courage and Love. I see life through Liesel's eyes. "If your eyes could speak, what would they say" - Max This is a really good movie and a awesome cast: Sophie Nélisse, Geoffrey Rush, Emily Watson, Ben Schnetzer
I kept postponing watching this movie for a long time, and after seeing it I can say that it did meet my low expectations. While the story does look promising given the novel it was based on, the movie seems like the scenes where just put one after the other with no particular bigger picture in mind. The performances are good but that doesn't redeem how The Book Thief is a snoozefest that portrays a historical moment in Hollywood's eyes. However, the main story is what rescues the movie from drowning below the average line.
Very engaging, moving, and beautiful! And it expresses, I feel, a fundamental idea that I have learned only after 76 years of life. The critics may be too cynical to appreciate it, but I loved this movie.
This is such a lovely and moving movie. If you liked the Pianist, then this is right up your street. Wonderful acting, story and all round performance. A little gem.
IT'S GREAT, stunning visuals, amazing score (John Williams), and good acting, especially from Geoffrey Rush- who you may know as Cap'n Barbosa. Tones a bit off for the sevarity of the topic, but all in all I'd give it an 90/100.
Wonderful gem of a movie! Really tugged at my heart. Great acting and wonderful script. Don't listen to the critic's reviews... this one is not to be missed!
