A shy adolescent boy, Walter (Haley Joel Osment), is taken by his greedy mother (Kyra Sedgwick) to spend the summer with his two hard-boiled great-uncles, Hub (Robert Duvall) and Garth (Michael Caine), who are rumored to possess a great fortune. At first, the two old men, both set in their ways, find Walter's presence a nuisance, but they eventually warm up to the boy and regale him with tall tales from their past. In return, Walter helps reawaken their youthful spirit.

This is a sweet movie, but it seems like it’s trying hard to be deeper than it ends up being. It’s a fun time and good messages. The acting is fairly good but nothing to think about too hard.

I’ve known about this movie since it first hit theaters and avoided because I thought it would be boring. The marketing then didn’t do it justice. Just saw it recently and I loved it. All the performances are great and the story is entertaining. Much more than a summer on the farm with two cantankerous old men.

A bit schmaltzy, but an interesting story about the relationship between the old guys and the young boy. Kept my interest, especially with the outstanding acting by all involved, especially Robert Duvall. The movie had this 74-year-old guy tearing up at times, while listening to the stories Michael Caine told and the scenes featuring Duvall. They were heartwarming and touching and often fun and funny. The movie also provided a poignant reminder to live and love as well as possible while we're here on this earth. Loved it way more than expected!

Very entertaining coming of age story about a preteen boy ,Walter, who gets dropped by irresponsible , flightv Mother. As a result he spends some time with a couple of eccentric , fun loving, great uncles. In the process he hears some great adventures recanted by the uncles and learns invaluable life lessons. Robert Duvall and Michael Caine are fantastic as the old uncles Huk and Garth. A very worthwhile movie to enjoy.
