Radioactive Reviews

Feb 5, 2025

A movie that had good intentions but probably would have worked better as a mini series with so much ground too cover. Good performances form Roamund Pike and Sam Riley. Interesting enough biopic of Marie Curie's life.

Recommended by a friend, this one did not resonate and I struggled to identify with the characters. It became tedious. Saw on Amazon.

This film is fine, and pretty much what I expected. I think it could have been really special with some different casting and more imagination.

Good movie that depicts how humanity will turn any discoveries meant for good into a tool for dominance and destruction.

Adapted from American artist and writer Lauren Redniss' graphic novel Radioactive: Marie and Pierre Curie, A Tale of Love and Fallout and by Marjane Satrapi, this biography of Marie Curie, the first woman to win a Nobel prize and first person to win twice in two scientific fields, radiates with hypnotic cinematography and score from a debilitated core of storytelling.

This biographical drama is about the incredible life of Marie Sklodowska-Curie and her Nobel Prize-winning work with previously unknown radioactive elements that changed the world both in medicine and warfare. Even though the storytelling style is not the most adequate choice for this film and its historical accuracy is excessively questionable for its alterations for dramatic effect, the best thing about it is Rosamund Pike's portrayal of the Polish scientist, whom she thoroughly understands and will keep the viewer engaged. But ultimately, it feels like a disjointed film with sequences that partly and unjustly blame Mme. Curie for her discoveries.

Learned little about the real curie

I did not mind this movie. It was award winning but it was informative and entertaining.

A pretty big disappointment. It wasn't flat out bad but it was pretty bland and mostly a waste of Rosamund Pike and Anya Taylor-Joy's talents.

I was only aware of her story in the broadest of strokes. It was interesting to get a bit more insight. Rosamund Pike is very talented and this was another good example of that. I recommend.

The film seems to have more to do with her personal life than with her achievements. I was surprised that actress Anya Taylor-Joy was cast in this movie!

This biographical drama was pretty good. Rosamund Pike, Sam Riley, and the rest of the cast did a great job in this movie. This true story about the life and career of scientist Marie Curie was dramatic, inspirational, and traumatizing. It's about always moving forward no matter circumstances you'll face and to never give up on what you can do for the world. If you haven't seen this movie yet, check it out sometime. It's worth watching.

Between 2.5 and 3 stars. Although it tries to go further than the figure of the biopic exploring how radioactivity has changed the world, it gives the feeling that the character is bigger than the simplicfication-to-get-the-point that the movie does.

If you are interested in history and scientific discoveries you'll like it.

Rosamund Pike gives an excellent performance as Marie Curie, the supporting cast is also quite talented, and the production values are impressive. However, its messy tone, flawed script, questionable storytelling and filmmaking choices, and disjointed narrative make this homage to one of the greatest scientists minds ever fall short of its ambitions.

Well acted but boring and set up kind of oddly

Radioactive! Like the title says, it almost killed me. Awful script with a disastrous direction. Whoever made it has no knowledge about cinema. Well... Netflix, what can you expect from them. Everything they touch turns into Lead and sinks.

Had put this movie off because of the bad reviews, but I really enjoyed it and thought it was well done. Will admit it's a bit odd, kind of a mix of bio-pic and arthouse film.

Although it incurs the schematics of so many other biopics, the film is a good gateway to discover less well-known aspects of the life of the famous scientist and the prejudices that she mobilized in her time Summary On the one hand, let's say that it is one of those typical biopics that tries to cover almost a whole life in less than two hours (with all its schematics and didacticisms), so it fails a bit to give depth to its protagonist and It is a bit short in the development of the scientific aspects of history, so that we also take note of the revolutionary nature of its discovery and its approach. But the film is also a good gateway to know and appreciate not-so-known aspects of Madame Curie's life and place ourselves in the historical context and understand what it meant to be a lucid, brilliant, independent, defiant and foreign woman in Paris. of the early twentieth century and the prejudices and even hatred that it mobilized. Madame Curie is a necessary reminder of how hatred and prejudice are blind and unrewarding. Then and now. Review The film is a biopic that covers a fairly wide stretch of the life of the famous researcher and two-time Nobel Prize winner. Marjane Satrapi directed that animated marvel called Persepolis about a woman and her relationship with macho Iran. This film is not up to her standards, but the feminist imprint, naturally, is once again present in the figure of this scientist who challenged the scientific environment of her time with a revolutionary discovery: that chemical elements could be transmuted (transformed) into other merits. to the emission of radiation. The film brings together several of the vices and schematics of many biopics: an accelerated pace at the beginning to capture the viewer, the will to condense almost an entire life in less than two hours (in a sort of parade of topics), a protagonist more or less well delineated but does not get to be deepened and a certain didacticism that unfortunately does not place too much emphasis on the scientific aspects of the story (and thus understand the revolutionary nature of its discovery) and that also resorts to a formal resource that shows us the obvious derivations of Curie's discoveries. Her clashes with the French academic and scientific establishment will appear, the struggle to continue with her experiments, the none at the time of the awards. Among the successes, we have the good performances of Rosamund Pike and Sam Riley as her husband Pierre Curie, certain dreamlike scenes, the reconstruction of the time and the staging of not-so-known aspects of his life such as the challenges to social conventions of the time and others that I prefer not to spoil. Madame Curie is perhaps, above all, a necessary reminder of what it meant to be a lucid, brilliant, independent, defiant and foreign woman in early 20th century Paris and how hatred and prejudice do not recognize merits and reasons, in that time and no other.
