It's 1943. Adapted from Ben Macintyre’s book, the screenplay is a brisk and jolly affair, taking gamey delight in comparing the art of espionage to the fibs of professional storytellers.

A perfect film based on a true story. Realistic, serious with a plausible romance and a great cast. Mostly dialogue and very little action. Other reviews say it is old fashioned. We are both of a certain age which may be why we enjoyed it so much. Definitely recommend if you like films that are not jokey or full of long and tedious action scenes. Only strange thing I noticed was that all the young women in the UK intelligence office seemed to have dark hair. Strange and unlikely.

It's basically a spy craft, humorless British WWII version of Weekend at Bernie's. About as exciting as tea time with the queen, if that's your thing.
