Critics Consensus

Natural Born Killers explodes off the screen with style, but its satire is too blunt to offer any fresh insight into celebrity or crime -- pummeling the audience with depravity until the effect becomes deadening.

Oliver Stone's Natural Born Killers is a passionately mad, frequently bad, passably interesting, probably unmissable movie. Go to Full Review

In Stone's last virtuoso display piece, JFK, the technical fireworks served a firm dramatic purpose. Here they get horribly out of hand. The flimsy, derivative storyline becomes almost obliterated. Go to Full Review
Alexander Walker London Evening Standard 01/17/2024
Stone's talent works well on the eye, seldom on the brain. There's no coherent argument to follow in his film; nothing lasts long lest viewers' attention span parts company with the excitement under the strain of having to follow a thesis. Go to Full Review
John Powers Vogue 02/13/2024
A big, dazzling, monstrously violent comedy that is probably the most extreme movie ever made in Hollywood. Psychedelic and assaultive, it's like a fever dream snatched from the skull of Charles Manson. Go to Full Review

The intent is manifestly satirical, though the result is lumbering and mirthless. Go to Full Review

It's Stone's sordid but well-executed action pic message film about how an ill-informed society glorifies repulsive violent figures and makes them heroes. Go to Full Review

Jack F @MovieFan111 2d I can understand why it's controversial. I unfortunately missed it in the theater. It wasn't what I thought it was gonna be (then again, I walked into it cold) The whole thing is grainy and messy, which is probably the point. Those rose tinted circular glasses are so iconic. It's a cultural cult classic piece that should simply be unmissable-- even if I didn't enjoy it or like it a whole lot. Then and throughout the years it marks itself as seminal piece of work. Still affects me know. Rodney Dangerfield was an inspired piece of casting absolute monster. No weakness from any actor See more Jason H Jan 5 You'll either love it or hate it. I love it, especially the director's cut. See more artie m @everythings_brownn Jan 2 My favorite movie of all time. Cult classic and timeless. The definitive movie in this genre. Juliette Lewis and Woody Harrelson in their heyday, absolutely stellar performance in character. Strange movie, lots of intrigue, suspense, cold blooded gore and action galore. Unconventional does not even begin to describe it. Very well written. Great cinematography and visually stunning. An acquired taste, granted, but it leaves a lasting impression, absolutely. Timeless masterpiece See more Read all reviews
