My Life in Ruins Reviews
I thought this movie was great! It makes you fall in love with each character, no matter how minor. You get to see great views around Greece, and it’s a very uplifting and happy movie. Top 10 favorite movies of all time!
Simple, pero entretenida y dulce
No comedy, definitely no romance and even less developed characters.
Watchable but very far from being a decent movie 1.6
Somehow the opposite of entertainment. Unwatchable, even as a hate-watch. Would only subject it to someone I was trying to torture.
A romantic comedy in which a travel guide leads a peculiar group of tourists through her native Greece and rediscovers her romantic side. The one thing I can possibly admire is the film locations... the beautiful ruins of Athens, the temples, the beaches. But the story is so full with stereotypes and bad taste in comedy. Terrible lines...
This movie could have been so much better. The casting, writing, acting, and stereotypes are highly awkward. It's a shame 'cause Vardalos and Dreyfuss are fab. They didn't make use of Alexis Georgoulis.
Captivating and funny, with gorgeous scenery.
While it's not the greatest movie it is a good chick flick and worth watching specially if you want to see all the Greek scenery and all the beautiful architecture. Some of the men are not hard on this woman's eyes!! Lol!!
If you let yourself get beyond the jokes that fall flat, you just might enjoy this eccentric and funny story.
Irv is the best part of the movie. It may only have a pg-13 rating, but there are plenty of references to deserve it. Poupi is pretty sweet, but his end makeover was too much. But perhaps he would relax it when they find their new normal. And their end, oi. The story had come to a reasonably sweet conclusion, and then they dump Velveeta over it. Most of the other characters resolved well (family or three, hopeful parents, and rehabilitated grandad with his klepto wife). One costume question: is even a well-dressed tour guide going to navigate all those ruins in heels?
Completely over-the-top with its intentionally cartoonish characters - besides the main couple and Mr. Wisdom Old Guy -, it's actually pretty funny, but then it wants us to have serious emotions about the compulsory love story, which I didn't, as it's predictable and coupled with the take-the-piss attitude of the first two thirds. There's bits of throat-forcing satire - eg the tourists who want french fries instead of Suvlaki, the tourists who want crappy souvenirs instead of the experience of being amongst millennia-old historic buildings. The haplessness of the main woman gets a bit grinding before her Moment of Transformation. The forced Moment of Tragedy wasn't one I predicted, but also one that made the film a bit more stupid, and the happy ending is expected. I n the end it was enjoyable, stupid, fun to rip apart while watching, and ultimately a good commercial for Tourism Greece - it made me want to go there -, even though a lot of it was actually filmed in Spain, why?
Bad acting, weak storyline. Yet still managed to be corny and pathetic. Could barely keep myself awake.
This was one of those films you expect to hate but after two glasses of wine this had me laughing and thoroughly enjoying every minute. If I had finished the bottle then I would have probably booked a holiday to Greece. Great fun!
Actually I think it's an great movie. Yes it's cliche, but I had a blast watching it. So I don't understand the hate
