11/05/2021 Stupendously underrated.... I stumbled across this feature twenty years after its release. As a now 66 year old male it is glaringly evident that this was never intended to appeal to my interest group. Regardless, I find this to be an astonishingly charming film about the disassociation we are all familiar with -- some to greater extremes than others. At this time, in this era (2021) this could not be made -- even as an independent production -- due to the over-arching sensibilities of PC consideration to outré connotation. The story advances quickly enough that even a small interest will be rewarded with insightful humor that will appeal to most everyone before the lack of percussive action begins to tax the attention of many possible viewers. This takes me back to the character studies I watched in the late 1970s from various small european producers with a poetic slant, featured at The Movie House in Portland Oregon once upon a century, dimly remembered by most but warmly so by me. See more 04/22/2015 "17 year old girl befriends 49 year old man." That synopsis probably has you going "Uh oh, 'Lolita' Alert," but thankfully, the movie doesn't go there. It is offbeat, refreshing, funny, sad, and altogether wonderful. Sure, it gets a little sappy in the end, but it's a GOOD kind of sappy, the kind that makes you feel better about yourself and makes you want to call your parents. In other words, this is about real emotions, not Hallmark sentimentality. Teens and middle aged men who feel alone in the world should both seek out this movie, because it's a delightful little treasure. See more 03/14/2015 Weird.......
