Mothers' Instinct Reviews
What a slow, dreary movie. I thought the acting was OK. And then the ending, there was no payoff and that was irritating. I sat through that movie just to have her knock off everybody. Very disappointed.
Despite moments of tension, the plot's trajectory becomes somewhat predictable as the story progresses. While the performances are solid, the pacing, at times, is a bit slow. Ultimately, the movie offers a glimpse into the psychological strain of grief and suspicion, though it could have been more impactful. To be honest, I must also add that I, myself, am a sucker for a happy, resolved ending. This film might have had a resolved, definitive ending; however, it is not what I would have liked to see happen, so that also affected my feelings toward this movie.
I have never written a review for a movie before, nor did I have a Rotten Tomatoes account before this review, but I'm shocked at the negative reviews this movie got. Psychological thrillers are my favorite and this is certainly that, but in a unique way. A major aspect of this movie is based around anxiety, and as someone who has lived their whole life with anxiety, I can say this is an incredibly well put-together movie that is extremely realistic as far as that aspect goes. It has you second-guessing everything, which creates an unsettled/paranoid feeling in its audience members. The story line is simple, but it doesn't need complexity. It does a great job with some great actors. I highly recommend giving this a watch. If you're overly sensitive or tend to get offended at thoughts of "evil" being shown, then don't bother watching this movie to turn around and give it an undeservingly low review; thrillers probably aren't the genre you should be watching lol.
If you love psychological thrillers watch this !! It had a lot of unpredictable moments that most thrillers don’t today and the acting is outstanding.
Very good paranoid thriller. Didn't overstay its welcome. Kept you guessing, mainly. Very un-Hollywood denoument.
Absolutely loved Mother’s Instinct! The acting was superb—every character brought so much depth and emotion to the story. The plot kept me engaged from start to finish, and the cinematography was breathtaking. It’s a powerful and moving film that will stay with you long after the credits roll. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a captivating drama!
What? I hated this film. The acting was fine, if not rather melodramatic, however the storytelling was silly and unpleasant to watch. This story told in a French film doesn't give the green light to a similar telling in a contrite US version.
Acting is great but the story takes too long to get to the climax.
Surprised to see the relatively low ratings for the movie. As much as I didn't like the story, the chemistry between the actors and actresses was executed well. Anne Hathaway was impressive in this character that just had nothing but unconditional love for her only son. The transition from her being good to bad was not something I liked to see, but objectively presented it understandably. Jessica Chastain was able to receive the act from Hathaway and possessed no less understanding of the loss of family. Setting was simple, yet nostalgic with the old cars and the decorations of the houses. The makeup and visual effects was clear, and portrays woman homemakers accurately.
Pretty good, made you wonder if what you think is going on is actually going on. I liked the concept of the movie even though it's deranged.
I felt this to be a really good thriller.the story i felt to be cold & calculating at times. Jessica Chastain & Anne Hathaway were very good.
Loss and suspicion are the themes in this old-school-type film. Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway have the chemistry necessary to keep your interests in a film with a measured approach.
It had suspense and was good as far as a thriller goes, but I didn’t really get the story. The character motivation for decisions didn’t make sense to me. And, like, what was the point of the movie?
I don’t care for many 2024-2025 movies but my boyfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed watching this. It has been a while since I’ve seen movies I’ve enjoyed, so this was very nice to watch.
Another domesticated remake lost in translation, becoming more exposed across the inherent flaws from grasping its psychological aim diving onto a classic Hitchcock thriller irrationally thwarted by the thinly written unpleasantness turning towards utter unsatisfactory, albeit impressive displayed though hectic convictions from the leading actresses. Excellent performance by all main characters. The cinematography was spot on for time period and a delight. The story line was engrossing and unpredictable for me. Loved every minute of it. Highly recommend. Would watch again.
A WASPy 1960's suburban melodrama that gets inexorably sillier by the minute, until finally reaching a climax and denouement that will leave you angry and exasperated at the sheer absurdity of it all. It almost seems satirical, but unfortunately, it's serious.
Good Movie keeps you on your toes. Which one is Evil or just Insane.
The people in Hollywood that make these movies are so disconnected from reality that they make these garbage movies. No parent on earth with half a brain would sit down and watch this absolute atrocity. It's wrong on so many levels. The best wrong again. These types of stories should never be put on a movie screen.
The acting was stellar and the characters were entertaining. All for it to lead up to a disappointing ending that didn't really make sense.
