In more ways than one, the spectre of death hangs heavily over More Than Ever, and Atef does not seek to comfort the viewer. But she does examine the marital and gendered responses and rifts to disease and grief that are rarely explored on screen.

It may be slow for some, but the acting is wonderful. Vicky Krieps is especially good. She conveys authenticity over a broad range of emotions. The theme of death is difficult, but it is explored deeply and realistically, both from the perspective of the dying and those who love them. The cinematography with its excellent use of light, is also worth noting.
