On Dec. 7, 1941, Japanese forces launch a devastating attack on Pearl Harbor, the U.S. naval base in Hawaii. Six months later, the Battle of Midway commences on June 4, 1942, as the Japanese navy once again plans a strike against American ships in the Pacific. Why did Emmerich want to remake this battle, 77 years after the fact, if he did not have enough money?... We didn't need a new one, unless he had something new to say or a new way to say it. To both questions, the answer is no.

Midway seems to be a movie that is better suited for the serious movie lover who will enjoy a movie that is more about historically correct then it is being there for entertainment.

The focus of a war film should be on the men and women who fight and for what they are fighting. Without that setup, Midway is just a spectacle of violence.

'...even if involvement with individuals is not great, the whole spectacle is highly impressive. David Mamet’s suggesting that a blockbuster movie is more like a pageant than a story applies here... a living tableau of deep blue hero action…’

Most of the movie is filmed like it's a fever dream of some sort. The CGI wasn't great and added to this. The worst part is the goofy characters and their horrible tough guy accents and New Yorker impressions. It got a few laughs out of me and made it impossible to take things seriously. Overall it's disappointing given they had some incredible historical events to work with. P.S. The small part on the Doolittle Raid was great and feels like a different movie.
