This film update of the Maverick TV series finds the title cardsharp (Mel Gibson) hoping to join a poker contest with an impressive payoff. In order to enter, Maverick must first put up a large cash sum. He scams hopeful contestants Annabelle (Jodie Foster) and Angel (Alfred Molina) in a preliminary card game to win the money he needs, making enemies of both players. While trying to evade Annabelle and Angel, the crafty Maverick realizes a cunning marshal (James Garner) is also on his tail.

Even in this political correct day and age that has made me more critical of movies I once loved, this one still stands the test of time as a thoroughly entertaining action adventure. I always enjoy the lighthearted cameos and breaking of the fourth wall. Even knowing every plot twist having watched it a dozen times, I still notice new details I didn't before.

Hungover, depressed, peanut butter, ginger ale. Highly re-watchable/ semi recommendable/amazing Western vibes/fell asleep but liked it so much I skipped back to the part I missed/ good to watch while apathetic to life/would make a good drunk watch too/3 am Saturday

Filme fraco, o roteiro é fraco, as cenas são fracas, a história é fraca, o elenco é fraco, e ninguém ajuda a melhorar o filme, os personagens são fracos, e o filme deveria ter cenas bem melhores e relevantes, para fazer o filme ser bom

Maverick never takes itself seriously, which establishes the tone for serious fun. Goldman's screenplay is a model of ingenuity, setting increasingly complicated traps for the three leads, and rather amazed that they wriggle free.
