Locked Down Reviews
Lockdown is boring even if you spend it in a lovely kitchen.
Full Review | Original Score: 2/5 | Dec 10, 2024
Locked Down may be very of-the-moment, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t good for the moment. I can’t imagine tolerating much of the film in a post-COVID world, but for now, Hathaway and Ejiofor are excellent...
Full Review | Original Score: 8.5/10 | Jan 16, 2023
Going from mean-spirited relationship comedy to a heist film is an awkward jump even if everything works, but despite having a backdrop that everyone can relate to Locked Down ends up feeling removed from its audience.
Full Review | Original Score: 2/5 | Mar 1, 2022
The heist story is too heavy-handed to be remembered or valued.
Full Review | Original Score: B- | Jan 11, 2022
Locked Down is a sparse film. It's an unsurprising fact but one worth noting. If you came for the heist, you'll be disappointed. Instead, this is a film that exists to give its stars a platform to play against type and stretch their artistic muscles.
Full Review | Nov 5, 2021
Had the chance to capture the strange times we live in and provide something warm, fun, optimistic, and, yes, crazy but instead, it all feels a bit hollow and rushed.
Full Review | Original Score: 4/10 | Sep 23, 2021
This is mostly two hours of watching Hathaway and Ejiofor argue about their relationship, followed by the most underwhelming heist ever put to cinema.
Full Review | Original Score: 3/10 | Aug 23, 2021
The film picks up some, but by that point its myopic pandemic over-focus will likely have made many check out.
Full Review | Original Score: 2/4 | Aug 6, 2021
Locked Down wants very much to be a product of this pandemic moment...[but it] is already dated, an unnecessary and unedifying document of Fall 2020.
Full Review | Jun 5, 2021
Despite some decent performances from Hathaway and Ejiofor, Locked Down often feels as monotonous as lockdown itself.
Full Review | Original Score: 2/5 | Jun 5, 2021
The film is a striking and unexpected experiment -- and before we get to the fanciful ending, the long build-up conveys a recognizable feeling of marking time.
Full Review | Original Score: 3.5/5 | May 12, 2021
While the stresses of working remotely, being unable to leave the house and having normality put on hold should be relatable - we've all been through it - every aspect of Locked Down's script feels forced.
Full Review | May 9, 2021
A Richard Curtis-esque rom-com that then rather noisily segues into a strange heist movie set in Harrods.
Full Review | Original Score: 2.5/5 | May 6, 2021
Locked Down isn't a bad film, but, again, there is something slightly grim about watching other people Zoom their bosses during your own free time.
Full Review | Mar 29, 2021
Although it's something of a creative wheeze, the film really captures the pandemic state of mind.
Full Review | Original Score: 3/5 | Mar 24, 2021
Ejiofor and Hathaway are game, but they're grasping for something solid, and don't find it. A deeply unsatisfying novelty artifact of the pandemic that fails to create a necessary sense of transgression.
Full Review | Original Score: 1/5 | Mar 19, 2021
Kinda fun with good chemistry, but utterly disposable...
Full Review | Mar 16, 2021
Zoom cameos from a few stars and a heist storyline add a bit of zest, but you still may want to free yourself long before the end credits.
Full Review | Original Score: 2/5 | Mar 15, 2021
It feels like a missed opportunity.
Full Review | Original Score: 2/5 | Mar 14, 2021
It's far too dry and meandering for an entertaining bit of fluff, but delirious enough to capture the mood of the moment.
