Claudio C @Claudio666 Mar 17 Another Great Film by Ken Loach (12,336 – 17 Mar 2026) In 1932, Jimmy Gralton returns to Leitrim, in the countryside of Ireland, after 10 years of exile in the USA, during the Great Depression and after the Irish Civil War. The youths ask him to reopen his hall since they do not have jobs, and everybody works in the renovation. The hall becomes a place to dance, paint, sing and read administrated by Jimmy and his friends. However, Father Sheridan begins a campaign to discredit the hall since Jimmy is communist as well as Dennis O'Keefe and his friends fascists, afraid that people begin to think supported by their leader and they do anything to expel him. "Jimmy's Hall" (2014) is another great film by Ken Loach, the director of "The Wind That Shakes the Barley" (2006), of a dark period of Ireland history. The plot is gripping and very well acted, and Jimmy Gralton was the only Irishman ever deported from Ireland after Irish Independence. My vote is eight. See more isla s @RT89656869 09/03/2022 I enjoyed the scenes of traditional Irish dance and the feel of community with the numerous locals getting together to make use of said hall. Of course there is a darker side to the story and it'd be fair to say its main theme is intolerance. There are scenes of violence depicted and I was a little squeamish on ocassion, thats not to say there's especially graphic, gorey scenes present (although some bloody injury is depicted in passing) but its more a case of what things represent, the metaphors at play, the social commentary aspect that I found sobering.
