Serviceable but underwhelming, this murder mystery is very old-school in every way, reminiscent of many an Agatha Christie page-turner and even more so of Christie’s innumerable imitators. Go to Full Review

While not all that memorable, Invitation to a Murder is fun enough that mystery fans (especially Agatha Christie fans) are bound to have a good time, with its inviting visuals, likable cast, and entertaining set of characters. Go to Full Review

Invitation to a Murder definitely pushes the limits of suspension of disbelief, and some of the characters -- mystery archetypes all -- skirt dangerously close into cliches and stereotyping, but it doesn't quite get cross over. Go to Full Review

Mischa Barton plays the sleuthing Miranda as a woman who has just found a purpose in her life, a moment when her natural bent toward close observation and analytical talents point her toward her future. ... A pleasant, enjoyable murder mystery. Go to Full Review

Lynne W @RT90326202 3h I have watched this twice now and think it’s wonderful. Easy to watch whilst living in this torrid time. See more Boast A @RT99507563 16h Beautiful settings, great costumes, so quite a delight for the eyes. There were some rough bits, and I'd like to read the book for context. Some dialog made zero sense. Almost like the parts were filmed separately then edited in, but done wrongful. . But, that aside, I love the genre, live the era it's set in, the acting was very good and the overall story was pretty good. I wanted a twist in the end- I didn't get it. I think it could have been excellent with some attention to editing, and a bit more story flair. But it was good enough that I will watch sequels. I'd love to see more mysteries set in this era. See more Jesse P. @jjphillipsyo Mar 20 Clearly, if your shoes are smudged your father is dead. Duh. If our heroine had earned her detective abilities, and if the dialogue was half-way believable, and if the characters weren’t so flat, and if the plot allowed them to behave as normal humans (just… call the police right away), and if plot didn’t leave a lot to be desired (she just saw the dog house on the cliff and never mentioned it? Or the blood on the lawyers pajamas? Andy why did the Asian lady leave breakfast abruptly?), then this could have been a good movie. As a high school theatrical who-done-it, it would have been passable. If the writing had gone a few more editorial passes it could have been a really good story—there was a lot of good to work with. See more Giovanni A @RT84143223 Mar 15 Poorly set up and undeveloped characters, a plot that advances forcedly and a resolution coming out of nowhere leave the audience thoroughly dissatisfied and disappointed. The big reveal feels silly and disconnected from the tone of the rest of the movie and brings in contrived and unrealistic plot devices that break the suspension of disbelief; the post-reveal happy ending is forced and corny. Those who have seen the comedy classic Murder By Death would recognize this movie as the type of murder mystery that the villain Lionel Wayne rants about in the ending. See more Alice C @RT85216707 Mar 15 I couldn’t select 0/5 so I selected 0.5 out of 5. If it was written by a fifth grader, it would be really impressive. The Asian character served zero purpose and it’s hella racism to take a 100% Asian woman and give her zero lines or purpose. For sure paid the least for saying her five sentences and making her the quintessential mute polite small Asian lady. See more Anonymous B @AnonBunnie Mar 13 Wasn't that bad of a watch—interesting to say the least but it isn't anything to write home about. Perhaps a better ending would've helped but the one they went with was definitely a feel good one. See more Read all reviews
