Haven Reviews
Basically it's a film about vermin creatures on a Caribbean island. To me not at all interesting..
A moment of inspiration has led me to look into Sarah Carter’s filmography, and this movie caught my attention. But it wasn’t just Sarah Carter, but it was over a dozen grade-A actors and actresses with a stylized view that was both beautiful but also deeply intense and I couldn’t help but wonder what kind of story this was going to be with its title. Still, a great cast is a great cast. Cayman Islands. Two major stories happen that intersect on the island paradise known for being a Tax Haven of the British Empire and the civilized world. An American businessman has just been busted by federal authorities as he runs off with his daughter and all the money he can gather to ensure they live a comfortable life in the Cayman Islands. However, the daughter ends up being caught up by a charming criminal as she gets caught up worrying her dad. While many years ago a young shy boy who saw his father die ends up living a poor yet comfortable life when he suddenly falls in love with the daughter of a wealthy, upright man with a son that is eager to protect the honor of the family, going as far as mutilating him to the point of eternal shame. Both businessman and shy boy intertwine in a night of violence and betrayal that leaves some people better others worse off. Not bad at all. I have to say now that Bill Paxton is dead, every movie he has made now feels like a treasure that you appreciate more than ever. But the living are phenomenal as well, as grade-A performers from Orlando Bloom, Zoe Saldana, Bobby Cannavale, Stephen Dillane, Anthony Mackie, and others complement this film wonderfully. Sadly, the moral of the story is that you do whatever to do what is right but some of it is committed by such terrible deeds that you wonder who truly is good and bad. But it’s an interesting story.
One of my all time favorite movies. i don't know why the critics gave it bad reviews but i loved it. the acting and the stories where very interesting.
That was frustrating. I stuck through the undergraduate non-linear melange hoping for a clever tie-up ending. Wasn't given one.
Didn't take long to figure out this is one of those everybody gets royally screwed and ends up unhappy movies. When will filmmakers realize that movies are supposed to entertain? The real world is depressing enough. Why do movies have to assail us with that fact?
Overly exaggerated and overly dramatic, making it, at the same time, laughably non-dramatic. Still to this day I cannot fathom what the point of this movie was anyway.
One of those movies that makes me mad because I've just struggled through an okay movie only to be left with a non ending. Frustrating as I have no idea what happened to anyone here, it just ends with no resolution. Does Shy (Orlando Bloom) get his girl? (Zoe Saldana) Does he get caught? Does he die fishing on Friday the 13th? What about Bill Paxton, did he get away with the loot? Did his daughter stay on Cayman? Anyways I was curious to see this since it takes place in the Cayman Islands and I lived there for 4 years however this version of CI is very different to my experiences while there. It was fun to see some familiar sights but I never did see any Caymanians just Jamaicans and other expats. I also had a hard time believing these characters were in high-school. Red Sail sports is transformed into a fishing charter. 09.13
Wow. Just wow. That was really bad. This movie tries to pull off a nonlinear storyline, but director Frank E. Flowers is no Tarantino. For literally the first hour of the movie, you don't know that the story is told out of order, you just think this is a really confusing movie. And for the first 30 minutes, you'll be staring at your DVD case and saying, "I thought Orlando Bloom starred in this..." Haven thinks it's a thriller, but there are no thrills to be had here.
The simultaneous, parallel narrative of several plotlines is relatively more surprising than its story & the effect it should have had.
This would have been better if there would have been a little more closure in the end. A sad story. There's no way I would have ever taken Andrea back.
