Halloween II Reviews
Gets weirder and more brutal than its predecessor, though is still bogged down by Rob Zombie's joyless cinematic sensibilities.
Full Review | Original Score: 2/5 | Sep 11, 2025
An ambitious, if flawed, sequel whose biggest accomplishment is having the most authentic portrayal of Final Girl PTSD ever seen in a horror film. (Director's Cut)
Full Review | Original Score: 3/5 | Oct 30, 2023
Halloween 2 has its problems, but the all-star cast is doing great work, and the film has a surprisingly nuanced consideration of Final Girl PTSD.
Full Review | Original Score: 3.5/5 | Oct 25, 2023
Zombie's latest features no redeemable characters, gruesome violence that takes precedence over character development, and leaves the viewer feeling detached and unsettled, but not in a good way.
Full Review | Original Score: 0.5/4 | Sep 4, 2023
Interesting? Yes. Enjoyable? That is more open to debate.
Full Review | Original Score: 5/10 | Jun 27, 2023
This is a movie that will work for very few people...and I am one of them. Zombie takes his creative liberties even further with a sequel that is the most ballsy and unique entry in the franchise. Even his typical dialogue feels tempered to my enjoyment.
Full Review | Original Score: 3.5/5 | Aug 19, 2022
For a series that has attempted numerous times to reinvent itself ... it took until 2009 for a risk to truly pay off.
Full Review | Oct 8, 2021
Throws in an abundance of cultural eccentricities and cameo appearances.
Full Review | Original Score: 1.0/4.0 | Sep 10, 2020
This is a slasher film that aches. There is no enjoyment in the bloodshed here. Only sorrow and Zombie's attention to the psychological effects of violence prove masterful.
Full Review | Original Score: 5/5 | Nov 4, 2019
[A] real horror for all the wrong reasons.
Full Review | Original Score: 1/5 | Oct 25, 2019
It's almost shocking that a major studio released a film this abstract, savage, and surrealistic in wide release.
Full Review | Jun 3, 2019
It's as if Zombie has tried to make the first arthouse slasher flick, keeping the film interesting - but ultimately not able to hide the fact that... it can't compare to its predecessor.
Full Review | Original Score: C | May 16, 2019
Not merely content to make a bad Halloween sequel, Rob Zombie dares to steer the franchise into pretentious territory.
Full Review | Original Score: 2/5 | Oct 21, 2018
Extends this interest in psychology to Laurie Strode (played this time by Scout Taylor-Compton), plumbing the emotional and psychological connection between her and Michael.
Full Review | Oct 19, 2018
There's not a pained expression, a confused sneer, or a filthy grimace that Zombie won't linger on for 10 seconds longer than he needs to.
Full Review | Aug 28, 2015
Relentlessly disturbing though it is, the movie is not particularly frightening.
Full Review | Original Score: 2.5/5 | Feb 15, 2013
The irony, of course, is that in attempting to breathe new life into Michael Myers, Rob Zombie may be the man who's finally killed him. Let us hope that in this case, the bastard stays dead: Halloween II might just be the bullet in his brain.
Full Review | Original Score: 1/5 | Sep 29, 2012
Zombie remains committed to showing how violence lingers with, and perverts, all who are touched by it
Full Review | Original Score: 3/5 | Nov 17, 2011

The nadir of both the Halloween series and Rob Zombie's filmography...
