The Guns of Navarone Reviews
With great action scenes, solid dialogue and an interesting plot, The Guns of Navarone is an excellent example of what war movies were like over 60 years ago.
Full Review | Original Score: 4.5/5 | Nov 21, 2023
An old-school war picture, where men are men, women are tough (but not too tough!) and the Nazis are hiss-able bad guys.
Full Review | Original Score: 3.5/5 | May 2, 2022
Beautifully paced, this 156-minute classic allows enough time for character development, plot complications, and several exciting set-pieces.
Full Review | Original Score: 4/4 | Nov 13, 2021
The finale is a touch overdramatic, but the film is nonetheless a first-class war epic.
Full Review | Original Score: 8/10 | Aug 24, 2020
Above all, the film lacks a firm controlling hand which would have ironed out passages of incoherent editing and made the climax really tell.
Full Review | Feb 11, 2020
The movie holds up pretty well as a rousing action picture, and also throws in a couple of comments about the contradictions of war.
Full Review | Original Score: 2.5/4 | Oct 27, 2011
One of the best WWII action-adventures, with an all-star cast headed by Gregory Peck, Anthony Quinn, and David Niven, this Oscar-winner (in special effects) is stirringly directed by the vastly underestimated J. Lee Thompson
Full Review | Original Score: A | Jun 16, 2007
David Niven is the subservient but stylish chemist Miller, rounding out a film that ranks among the best war movies.
Full Review | Original Score: 3.5/4 | May 7, 2007
Rousingly old-fashioned WWII adventure

It was forgettable but highly entertaining.

Another classic WW2 epic. Suspense, espionage, and some big BIG guns.
Full Review | Original Score: 4/5 | Mar 21, 2003
A good old-fashioned Nazi ass-whomping, aided by some great effects and a charming pair of heroes.
