Grown Ups 2 Reviews

However, strip away the rare moments of humility and championing of small town life and you're left with what is simply a series of sexist and scatological vignettes...

This film incited more facepalms and head-shakes than laughs, and the script feels like something Sandler could have scribbled on the palm of his hand.

Grown Ups 2 won't please a good majority of the film critics, but it's not a film for the film critics.

It all ends rather politely with an 80s costume party, and rather worryingly with the possibility there might be a Grown Ups 3.

It all seems like a sad excuse for Sandler to find work for every friend he has ever had. If Sandler was any kind of friend, he would have put these people in a better movie.

I still don't understand why they made the first one, much less a sequel.

This "comedy" didn't even make me crack a hint of a smile.

The first film was a bloated sack of puerile sexist jokes, and moronic Adam Sandler bits. . .But the first iteration of Grown Ups made money (a lot of it) so now there is another one.

It's not terribly deep and insightful, as moments in The Way, Way Back are, but Grown Ups 2 is comfortable and, at times, genuinely hilarious.

Few of the characters' actions make any sense, be it in the context of Hollywood clichés, real life, or anything even resembling reality.

It's a shame how lazy and pointless Grown Ups 2 is.

Full Review | Original Score: 1.5/10 | Jul 20, 2015

Laziness wafts from the screen like a foul odor.

Full Review | May 5, 2015

if Grown Ups was a laid-back mid-nineties SNL reunion disguised as a movie about small-town friends reconnecting, then Grown Ups 2 is a stroll through an alternate-universe Saturday Night Live retirement community.

Sandler's films have always been stupid, but the early stuff is pretty harmless; here the jokes almost always come at the expense of someone else, the kind of needless bullying one expects of a YouTube comment section.

[A] slothful, indulgent sequel that sees a once-great screen comedian hit self-inflicted Sandlergeddon.

Full Review | Original Score: 1/5 | Jul 28, 2014

Rob Schneider, the butt of many jokes in the first Grown-Ups, is nowhere to be seen. Salma Hayek, as Lenny's wife, looks understandably tense and irritable throughout.

The single consistent throughline Grown Ups 2 seems to have, in fact, is its bigotry.

Full Review | Original Score: 0.5/5 | Jul 28, 2014

[A] witless, clueless and utterly pointless sequel to a comedy that pulled in boatloads of cash, but was beloved by absolutely no one.

Full Review | Original Score: D- | Jul 28, 2014

The only good news is that the five friends in the original film have been whittled down to four.

Full Review | Jul 28, 2014

Transgender jokes, fat jokes (always James, happy to look stupid), homeliness jokes, mama's boy jokes -- the picture was made by people who like to put down people, and it was made for people who like to tease others or watch others be insulted.
