The messaging is at least reasonably clear, even if tragedies are seen on both sides, given what happened to grizzly bears following this event. I just wish the film were a bit more polished.

It might not be a masterclass in character development, or indeed something that hammers a particularly visceral message - but this is a movie that actually cares about the subject and respects it enough to lean heavily into the somber, rather than the sensational. It is very one paced and with the true story in its background, it had a path it must follow on what I imagine was a modest budget - with most bear action left to the imagination. I'm a fan of less is more, so I don't crave the outrageous like many of today, I just wanted to be interested. And interested I was. Solid halfway score.

It's a grounded and refreshingly unsensational take on an era when naivety was widespread about wildlife and Grizzlies in particular, and a sympathetic treatment of an unprecedented bear attack.
