Irwin "Fletch" Fletcher (Chevy Chase) is one of the best investigative reporters in the country, and he'll need all his skill when he becomes the main suspect in a murder case. After inheriting a Louisiana plantation from a distant relative, Fletch makes the journey from Los Angeles to check it out. When he winds up in bed with a lawyer -- who in turn winds up dead the next morning -- Fletch has to solve the crime before he ends up behind bars for someone else's misdeed.

In this meager sequel, as in its popular predecessor, Chevy Chase demolishes every easy target in sight with a quip of the tongue. Some of the lines are funny, but after a while you just want to smack him.

…the Fletch package still holds as a means of delivering Chevy Chase to his eager public….perhaps some discomfort with the edgy content provides an explanation why the rise of Fletch stopped here with Fletch Lives...

It's sillier than the original, but it's almost as funny. If you grew up in the South, you will love the way small towns and televangelism are lampooned.

While Chevy Chase is perfectly suited to the role of Fletch, this sequel is a lazy effort that is in no way as good as the original.

Fletch Lives is a fantastic sequel. It's just as entertaining as the original movie. Admittedly, I grew up watching this movie, and I know that some people don't find it as funny as I do. Nevertheless, I can't help but grin almost the entire time and I can quote almost the entire film. I think Chevy Chase is at his prime during the Fletch movies.
