Enforcement Reviews
Taking its name from the Arab word for "police", this Danish thriller tackles systemic racism and brutality among Copenhagen cops.
Full Review | Original Score: 3/5 | Oct 7, 2021
A tough-as-nails feature directorial debut with superb performances.
Full Review | Original Score: 5/5 | Sep 9, 2021
Where it goes is harrowing, but it digs deeply and forces us to think.
Full Review | Original Score: 3.5/5 | Sep 9, 2021
While Shorta is certainly a propulsive piece of action cinema... there's a crudely schematic quality to the writing.
Full Review | Original Score: 3/5 | Sep 5, 2021
For co-directors Ølholm and Hviid, it's a Hollywood calling card. For the rest of us, it's a tense actioner, anchored by powerful performances from its leads, who add layers to good cop/bad cop clichés.
Full Review | Original Score: 4/5 | Sep 4, 2021
However you feel about the boys in blue, this is an action-packed, socially-conscious thriller.
Full Review | Original Score: 4/5 | Sep 3, 2021
What it lacks in complex character work is made up for by smart plotting, the script thick with dramatic tensions and reversals of fortune. This is film-making with a pulse.
Full Review | Original Score: 3/5 | Sep 2, 2021
A classic and supremely effective behind-enemy-lines movie...
Full Review | Original Score: 3/5 | Sep 1, 2021
An astonishing time bomb, brilliant in form and substance, that hits hard the stalls with its powerful discourse on racism and a relentless management of tension.
Full Review | Aug 6, 2021
It's a tough watch that twisted my insides into a knot that only released slowly and with time.
Full Review | Original Score: 4.0/5.0 | Jun 14, 2021
The novelty of this shocking debut feature lies in the vibrant physical, dramatic and ethical vicissitudes that are resolved between the protagonists and the adolescent they guard. [Full review in Spanish]
Full Review | Original Score: 4/5 | Jun 1, 2021
The movie mostly succeeds because of realistic portrayals of racism's damage and because of the actors' impressive performances. What isn't so realistic is the plot: Two white cops in Copenhagen are stuck in a racial riot for hours without any backup.

It will serve more the interests of unconditional enthusiasts of the action genre than actually entertain those looking for a well-calibrated story.
Full Review | Original Score: 2.5/5 | Apr 4, 2021
Ølholm and Hviid disappointingly morph their strong conceptual design into been-there-done-that action movie fare.
Full Review | Mar 29, 2021
The good and bad of two Danish cops in this tight, tense police drama.
Full Review | Original Score: 6/10 | Mar 28, 2021
Enforcement strips away all subtext to instead bang us on the head with text, but it inadvertently highlights all the wrong angles.
Full Review | Original Score: 1.5/5 | Mar 22, 2021
Ølholm and Hviid don't want us to turn our brains off. Amid the excitement, they create morally ambiguous situations by which to challenge their characters - and the audience.
Full Review | Mar 20, 2021
Hviid and Olholm spend a lot of time wringing their hands about the future of race relations, but always in flat, heavily filtered images.
Full Review | Original Score: 1.5/4 | Mar 19, 2021
Hviid and Ølholm let the action get in the way of their bigger ideas, and as a result, those ideas start to look smaller and far more simplified.
Full Review | Original Score: 2.5/4 | Mar 19, 2021
It's impressive for its strong performances and polished technique, though familiar in substance and form.
