What exists in this film is the perfect balance of thrilling suspense, passionate romance, moral ambiguity, and raw violence—all of which tap into our most bare human emotions and distill the human experience. Not to mention the nostalgic filter that coats this film—Los Angeles is transformed from a sunny California desert city into a sleazy, cool-toned, seductive metropolis. The director captured lightning in a bottle with this sleeper. If you like Ryan Gosling this is peak performance. The cast is phenomenal, ranging from Oscar Isaac to Bryan Cranston just to name a few. The narrative, cinematography, and acting are top notch. See more Daniel S @DES13 Jan 16 I do not know what the other nine movies are, but Drive is in my all time top 10 list. It’s unfortunate the audience score does not align with my love of the film, it’s not for everyone which fair. But the reason I love it comes down to a few things 1) The world is a morally gray place but that doesn’t mean you have to be as well. Goslings character is of extremely high integrity but surrounded by (and working for) terrible people. 2) The Vibe. The soundtrack and cinematography are exceptional. A true love letter to film making, and car chases for that matter. When the credits roll, it really makes you feel something. 3) The screenplay. As others have noted, there is a lack of dialogue. It truly is a visual film. The scenes with minimal dialogue are incredible…..it’s not necessary to always drown the audience in dialogue. I finally had watched this film about a year ago.
