I rewatched it recently an adult and oh boy I wish I hadn't, I should have just left it at what my childhood self saw. The best way I can describe this film is mortal combat annihilation meets power rangers. Just cheesy acting and dodgy effects with a bad script too boot. See more Kenny A. @nerdsman567 Jul 12 This is a movie I really didn't like when I first saw it. But over the years, l've lightened up on it and, nowadays, it has slightly grown on me... Keyword being "slightly." I wouldn't say "Dragon Wars (2007)" is a "good" movie, but it does have some memorable highlights, both intentional and unintentional. The story is ALL over the place (Especially with its "ancient legend" plot, which may alienate Western audiences), the characters are all bland and one note, it's filled to the brim with bad acting and equally terrible dialogue, but its action set pieces with the creatures, most notably the evil Imoogi (aka the giant snake kaiju), certainly elevate it. The creature effects, in themselves, are quite impressive for a foreign production, even if the CGI isn't up to par with other Hollywood blockbusters. I'd only recommend this one to diehard kaiju fans. If you want some awesome kaiju action involving dragons, evil armies, and giant snake kaiju, give it a watch, for some thrills and laughs. I'm not a particularly big fan of action movies, and even I knew the stakes for this story were super high and the effort was vast by Korea. I was pretty dumbfoundedly captivated by the romantic aspects, astounded by the special effects, and intrigued by the entire story. In a time when all Marvel movies feature such overacting and stupid, repetitive plots, this movie stands out by far. While even Robert Downey Jr. (supporting actor by the Oscars) is an idiot onscreen as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth ruins the Thor franchise, Robert Pattinson reenacts a brooding tween as Batman, and Heath Ledger oozes overachieving try-hard into every shot, everyone wants to complain about acting in movies like this and others that strive for wholesome adventure with lesser-known actors. Take a chill pill next time you cry about The Dark Knight or Spider-Man. Movies like this are the backbone of an action genre that maintains high budgets with no thought input. Is it truly fantastic?
