Saffron Cassaday is at her wit's end after suffering from ulcerative colitis for nearly a decade. She decides to try a promising new treatment known as Fecal Microbiota Transplant (FMT) -- the act of taking stool from a healthy donor and implanting it into the gut of a sick patient. From convincing her partner to be her donor (Who says chivalry is dead?), to turning their apartment into a makeshift production facility for what some are calling "brown gold," Saffron spares no details in her quest to uncover what some experts believe could be the biggest medical breakthrough of the 21st century.

Cassaday is excellent as both the director and subject of this light-hearted but informative documentary about one woman’s search for a treatment for an obnoxious, painful, difficult-to-manage chronic condition. Go to Full Review

Tal S 12/09/2023 This film is super-informative... and quite surprising. Gastrointestinal issues are no joke, and, if there are unconventional yet innovative and powerful ways of dealing with them, I really hope the research continues and that treatments start becoming more common. I had heard a bit about the concept before, but this film really discusses it in an approachable way. I highly recommend watching this film. The concept might at first seem a little strange... but, in the end, it actually makes a lot of sense! See more Joanne C 11/10/2023 This is a surprisingly intruiging and eye-opening film about sh!t and the main character (and film's director) Saffron's battle with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). In dealing with this potentially uninviting subject, the film is extremely well-balanced in presenting complex information about IBD treatment, and options when standard treatment fails, as it did for Saffron. As someone intimately familiar with Crohn's disease, I was in awe of Saffron's courage and persistence in exploring an unorthodox treatment and ultimately adding to what is known about this approach. Designer $hit is very well made and acted, and you will cheer for Saffron all the way. Don't let the topic put you off, this is an uplifting movie. Definitely recommended. See more Joshua M 10/27/2023 My partner and I really enjoyed this documentary. Felt it presented a really balanced and informative portrayal of fecal transplants. See more Brandon T 10/26/2023 An entertaining and insightful film on the struggles of colitis and the cutting edge medical treatment offering hope. See more Gregor R 10/26/2023 Great documentary opening our eyes of a 4000-5000 year old proven treatment which is documented in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Bravo, bravo for this courageous movie, not easy to tackle. I asked and they do this treatment at UCLA in Los Angeles. Thank you for opening peoples' minds. See more Sherry T 09/25/2023 This is a must-see for anyone suffering with Ulcerative Colitis or Crohn's disease (or any other chronic illness with no real cure). Growing scientific research linking an unhealthy microbiota with a wide array of diseases is putting a spotlight on Fecal Microbiota Transplants (FMTs), a non-pharmaceutical solution that is inexpensive and when screened properly, causes no side effects.
