The kid is the very definition of a man child, a spiteful one at that. Some of the dialogue is really far fetched. For instance, if a kid told me his mom oversexualized when she wants to slow down; I would have to ask how and why do you know intimate details of your Mom’s sex life! (B) See more Peter G @Petermovielover 11/27/2023 Those viewers expecting a cookie cutter relationship comedy/drama might be disappointed since the film never tries to hint where these characters fates are headed. The performances are exceptional. I always enjoy watching John C. Reilly's work & here he comes through with his most remarkable performance, IMO, since CHICAGO. Much more of a subtle characterization than he sometimes presents. The same holds true for the rest of the cast & Jonah Hill as the mother obsessed son manages to be creepy & sympathetic at the same time. Marisa Tomei & Catherine Keener are interesting as usual. The best aspect of this somewhat dark comedy is that the outcome of the mother/son/boyfriend interaction is realistically played & unpredictable so this ambiguity will not please every audience member.
