Set, as it is, during the especially turbulent 1960s and 1970s, and continuing into the 1980s, C.R.A.Z.Y. does an exceptional job of capturing the zeitgeist of those periods.

This film goes far beyond the "coming of age" that many describe. It shows perfectly imperfect human beings who have to confront their imperfections. It's a film that, in my opinion, is fundamentally about the notion of forgiveness, which is so essential in this imperfect world.

Been waiting for years to see Jean-Marc Vallee's ("Wild" "Dallas Buyer's Club" "Big Little Lies") breakthrough, and aside from feinting and soft-peddling the gay subplot, it turned out to be a beautifully drawn portrait of fathers, sons and brothers, and coming of age in the 70's and early 80's. Definitely worth it (and strangely, an appropriate Christmas movie).
