But then the story kicked into gear it got a lot more interesting. Too slow in some patches - especially the long church scenes - and the end dragged on too long. But overall it was worth the watch. Luckily, it's so much better than that. It's a powerfully well-written tale about a small-town sheriff trying to keep his town from falling apart after a series of murder rocks his town. Even with the insipid visuals and amateurish acting, it's an endlessly engaging mystery with a stellar cast of characters, whose message of (self-)forgiveness is wonderfully non-denominational.
