What to Know

Critics Consensus

Ana de Armas' luminous performance makes it difficult to look away, but Blonde can be hard to watch as it teeters between commenting on exploitation and contributing to it.

No vivacity, no choice, just tragedy. Nothing more to see here, folks. Go to Full Review

Ana de Armas (Knives Out) delivers a truly extraordinary performance as the platinum superstar and icon, while Dominik and his collaborators discover endlessly inventive ways to recreate highlights from Monroe’s iconography. Go to Full Review

Blonde is a strange movie. There’s no ducking that. I like it, especially for de Armas’s tour de force, but I can see how others may not. Go to Full Review

It's no exaggeration to say that Blonde is an extreme testament to the cost of fame. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

While Dominik’s aims may be debated, Blonde remains a stunningly rendered depiction of the craven, depersonalizing nature of celebrity and how it robs those it infects of their agency and freedom. Go to Full Review

Where many biopics have become generalized, surface-level projects that essentially all go down the same checklist, Blonde takes on a completely unique and arguably camp approach to this genre. Go to Full Review

Jeffrey P @vanillavoodoo1 3d I didn’t realize Marilyn Monroe came from Silent Hill. A lot of speculation on private moments and personal thoughts for a three-hour bio-pic with moments and thoughts that no one could have known, I think it’s borderline slanderous, and all amidst back & forth from b&w to color that seems random and without reason or significance other than to show duality that may or may not have been as imagined here. I did check before writing this review to see whether or not this had received a Razzie nomination for Worst Actress because I had just seen an article the other day with this film mentioned in the same breath as the Razzies, but it was not and I’m glad it did not because that performance was just about the only enjoyable thing in this. It was a four-star performance in a one-star movie. What was wrong with the rest of it? It all started in Silent Hill. See more Matthew P. W @worstofthewurst 4d I think critics and viewers who decry the exploitation of Marilyn Monroe in this film completely miss the point - because the exploitation is the point. Norma Jean was thrown into a world where people stripped her of her agency and dehumanized her. It’s difficult to watch and examine an audience’s complicity in this, but again, this is the point. This is only controversial and divisive if you’re kind of dumb. Ana de Armas is absolutely incredible in this, and the rest of the cast was very strong. As a Nick Cave and Warren Ellis fan, I was particularly fond of the soundtrack. See more Divyani P @RT79077444 5d I was not born when Marlyin was a star but the movie does so much injustice to her life.. portraying her as victim and objectified so heavily. I’m sure her life was difficult but she must have done smart things to get to that level and showing her in this "victim light" felt like the movie dishonored her life…such a disappointing perspective of an incredible women’s life directed by a man 🤦🏻‍♀️ See more Silvina S @SilvinaSis Mar 1 What an amazing film!!! It is not easy to watch it because it shows you what you don't want to see about the industry and the leaders in this crazy world. It reminds me what happened to Amy Winehouse a d Britney Spears. See more Jason M @Jmo167 Feb 8 Please do yourself a favor and don’t watch this movie. While the performance by Ana de Armas is amazing and makes parts of the movie watchable. At its core, all it does is sexualize Marilyn Monroe and make her into a one dimensional character. While it’s true that in her life she had to unfortunately go through some of these terrible things, the movie still should have shown her more respect and put some positive parts of her life as well. In the end the movie wanted to show how her being exploited was horrible, but it just ended up exploiting her even more. See more Eamon A @EamonTheChicken Jan 28 OMG WOW...
