Richard Martin (Sam Neill) buys a gift, a new NDR-114 robot. The product is named Andrew (Robin Williams) by the youngest of the family's children. "Bicentennial Man" follows the life and times of Andrew, a robot purchased as a household appliance programmed to perform menial tasks. This is one of my favorite Robin Williams films. I grew up on Mork and Mindy, I love Robin Williams zany/manic, and there are brief moments of this. This is not Mrs Doubtfire, Patch Adams, or a flubber. But this, for me, shows the warmth and emotion that he could carry. The story of an android and his flight, and sacrifice to become accepted as human. The love and loss he experienced, the improvements he makes to human health he invents in his own struggle to before human. It's heartfelt, it's tragic, it carries a warmth and sadness that only Robin Williams can convey. I watch this film when I need to feel, to feel warmth, to feel happiness, to feel sadness, to feel love and to feel goodness. I'll cry, I'll smile, I'll laugh, and I'll miss an actor lost too soon.

It's an epic of passing time and what lost opportunities can become once you find your heart, and make "mistakes." I rewatch this film every few years (it's emotionally draining). What I find funny, Tim Allen was considered for the role but chose Galaxy Quest, another one of my rewatchables. This movie bombed in the box office. To each their own, but this is a 5 star film to me. I DO NOT find it boring, it moves me deeply, watching Andrew move through 3 eras. The passing of time is not the same to him, until he finally returns home and it hits him...and he learns to make mistakes (AKA follow his heart and not his programming).

Painfully underrated movie. Robin Williams gives an amazing performance, as he always has. It's silly and full of plot holes, but it has aged beautifully. Can't help but love it.
