Bend It Like Beckham Reviews
Very good film this, didn’t quite know what to expect from it but was well worth a watch. Nothing really to do with Beckham 🤣
Funny in 1 hour and 52 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated PG-13 for Sexual Content and Language!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The USA grossed over $32,500,000.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Really well made film, considering the small budget. Can see why it made nearly 15x that at the box office.
HORRIBLE! One of the worst movies I'll ever seen.
Far too long of a movie. Terrible plot and now terribly outdated.
This is a generational classic that hits home on so many levels. The Re-Watch value in this film is ever present.
This soccer movie was great. Parminder Nagra, Keira Knightley, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Archie Panjabi, Anupam Kher, Juliet Stevenson, Frank Harper, and the rest of the cast did a great job in this movie. This story about two teenage girls wanting to play professional soccer against their parents wishes was dramatic and inspirational. It's about fighting for what you want to do with your life and not end up like your parents. If you haven't seen this movie yet, check it out sometime. It's worth watching.
Very inspiring. Great Story.
Better than I thought! I had no expectations and no idea what this film was about going into it. But it's super cute! A nice way to introduce Indian culture to someone unfamiliar with it. All of the characters were fun. A good, fun, heartwarming movie with a little cheese on top.
How are these punters such good storytellers? Like all of them! David's parents, friends. I enjoyed the pointed intention to juxtapose opposing opinions and recollections from the cast. Overall It's fun to watch but also appalling to learn what they went through. Im not a footie so it's always headscrathing the fanaticism of some nations--but especially UK--with it. I also thought England's fascination with David and his family was simply that, an English thing. Had no idea they used the poor guy as a scapegoat for all the ills of their country. No wonder he moved to LA. I'm starting to think the English are awful!
A great light-hearted film about soccer
Even you can bend it like David Beckham Parminder Nagra is Jess, an Indian girl who loves David Beckham, England's most popular soccer player But her mother is far too strict and sticks to tradition, she doesn't want her daughter to prance around in shorts playing violent sports Her best friend is Jules Paxton who recognizes her skills to play semi-pro Jess is also falling for her coach while trying to maintain her family's status and playing a sport she loves but is forbidden to play Even her father has to remind that he wasn't allowed to play sports when he moved from his native country due to all the prejudice, he doesn't want his daughter to have the same disappointment Director Gurinder Chandra makes such delightful colorful characters, great cinematography, big laughs, and a modern representation of an Indian character wanting to pursue her dream with a hint of social commentary It's a bit more fussy in places to get things going but it's enjoyably watchable Thankfully it's not lacking heart or soul too
It is a familiar story of a person pursuing a dream that parents and family disapprove of. It's simple formula with typical themes. Pretty to watch with Indian traditions and music. The acting of lead roles was decent. It would have bumped up the quality to lose the over-acted homophobic parent side plot. Jonathan Rhys Meyers is nice eye candy.
I delightful movie, inspirational and upbeat without being preachy. I love soccer so getting emotionally engaged and rooting for the girls' team came easily, as did rejoicing at how her family overcame their initial dilemma. An all-round positive and feel-good movie.
A very rare sort of film. This is a duel-female lead soccer coming-of-age dramedy mixed with some social commentary. I don't think you could ever find more than 5 films in all of existence that can be categorized like that. The comedic stuff is much more effective than most of the ensuing drama but the performances and sheer daring originality give this British-Indian indie a boost in appeal.
Maybe I would have liked Bend it Like Beckham more if I were a fan of soccer…or if I were a teenager…or if I were a girl. It just didn't quite work for me. The story was repetitive, the filmmaking felt amateurish, and some actors were definitely better than others. I wanted to cheer more for Bend it Like Beckham, but it left me simply shrugging my shoulders.
