This movie is a masterclass in story weaving and using historical events accurately to tell a compelling story. Some may say the movie moves too slow, but I strongly disagree, The acting and pacing is excellent. Jon Hamm is an excellent protaginist and point man for the storytelling of the conflcit of Mossad/Israel, the PLO, and multiple splinter groups trying to determine the fate of Lebanon. The story covers about 12 years from Beruit Lebanon being a desert oasis to a war-torn flash point in the Middle East. The movie keeps you guessing with more than a few double crosses, and sleight of hands to keep you guessing. While it has plenty of action, its more of a spy thriller. Coming in at under 2:00 hours, its a well timed "edge of your seat" thriller. Its a must see IMHO

Writer Tony Gilroy has a knack for writing scripts with a main character getting cornered in a stressful situation and then knocking them around for a bit. Most of his scripts have been the foundation for many solid films. I liked this movie, Beirut. However, this movie feels more like a chapter in an ongoing primer about the political turmoil in the region. Even so, I will still come back to re-watch this movie a second time at some point later.

An interesting movie that while not true, does have some definite realism to it. It is interesting to see how some different countries work together and try to work each other to reach their goals. This is worth the watch if you are into war movies that focus on intel and relationships between countries. Hamm and Pike are good.
