Accidental Love Reviews
Stupid movie. I can't believe it was ever released. I watched a little more than half before I turned it off. I can't think of anything positive to say about it other than "Can I please have that 58 minutes back?". The money spent to produce this piece of crap could have helped many people in the world. Such a waste of money and talent!
funny political satire, cheap and simple. the alternate title is better: "Nailed"
Would rate 0 if I could. Might be the worst.movie I've ever seen. Just painfully dumb the whole way through. Couldn't wait for it to be over
The premise of this movie was ridiculous to begin with. It completely lives up to the expectation.
I know I know . This was pretty terrible but a decent political commentary and it had jakey g cmon . 2.8
What? This is a David O' Russell film? I must be losing my mind. He is better then this. What was he doing directing this, what was Jake Gyllenhaal and Cathriene Keener doing in this? The movie was bad enough I forgot Keener was in it. I love her in Get Out and Seinfeld! :) Luckily Jake Gyllenhaal would do better with Southpaw and Everest in 2015 and O' Russell would come out with Joy. Everyone had poor acting here too. I know people like Gyllenhaal and Keener do better then this. The film's story can be interesting, and the comedy is only a bit funny at times. 2 and a half out of 5.
This movie is fun and ridiculous. If you like Monty Python or Gentleman Broncos or "The Room' you will love this funny, weird movie. Jessica Biel is really good in it.
This is a wonderful, semi-dumb comedy, in an era when there aren't a lot of comedies. The comedy hits came hard, but the leading couple were sufficiently well-developed that I could suspend my disbelief. Highly recommended.
This movie was fun to watch. Jake looks great, the whole cast was great. You could tell they were just having fun. I liked it!
In the last year I have never seen a romantic comedy be so aggressively unfunny. When considering the fact that I have seen Little Italy (2018) and Life Itself (2018) I can't believe a film exists that executes it's concept more terribly. Part of what makes watching this film so infuriating is the fact that you can see how some of the jokes or at least the germ of the ideas they are based upon could be funny. This is the second to last David O. Russell film I am going to watch as I have not seen The Fighter (2010) yet but I can't see him making a worse film than this especially when considering the fact he disowned it. Everybody in this film's cast has done markedly better work and it's disappointing to see them so wasted in a film that never really decides what it is. Roller-skating waitress Alice Eckle, Jessica Biel, is being proposed to by her longtime boyfriend Scott, James Marsden, when a nail is fired into her head. She is initially unable to have it removed because she does not have health insurance so it has to be removed by her Aunt Rita, Kirstie Alley. Once the nail is removed she experiences the frustrating side effects of having her sexual inhibitions removed and randomly speaking Portuguese. She heads to Washington D.C. to speak to congressman Howard Birdwell, Jake Gyllenhaal, who quickly falls in love with her and agrees to support a healthcare bill despite pressure from his superior Pam Hendrickson, Catherine Keener, who only wants to build a military base on the moon. In the end Birdwell is able to pass a bill that covers accidents like Alice's and the two reunite. The moment where the film feels like it's onto something occur when Alice is first trying to get medical treatment and the doctors who refuse her describe how absurdly difficult it is to obtain healthcare. What lets the scene down is not it's content but the odd presentation of the idea as we have jumped from a scene that feels like it has come from a Paul Feig comedy to something that feels more like an Adam McKay movie. The awkward tonal shifts undercut the points that the film is trying to make which is a shame because this film could be meaningful if it were successful. Russell's screenplay never quite gets a handle on what it's trying to say and how it's trying to say it and therefor it does not work as either as a sweet romantic comedy or a smart political satire. The performers also seem confused as veterans like Beverly D'Angelo and Catherine Keener seem to have completely adjusted how they play their characters between scenes. Obviously this would have been caused by the numerous delays and budgetary problems involved in this film's production but it's one of the biggest elements that lets down a fairly interesting concept. Gyllenhaal and Biel are both capable of giving good comedic performances as seen in Inside Amy Schumer and Easy Virtue (2008) respectively but they are both performing in a different film here which leaves us feeling nothing for their characters and their connection. Watch any of the infinitely better films that the members of this cast have appeared in because you can see them trying their hardest with the material they have to work with here. It's unfair to criticize Russell's direction because he did not get to edit this film and the severe delays would have effected how he approached the film but I still expected more from the man who made Silver Linings Playbook (2012). He films this like it's an episode of 30 Rock, not a bad thing when it's on television, which doesn't help us to understand the satire elements of the story. He doesn't seem to know the abilities of the actors he is working with and misuses their natural charms, he even managed to misuse Catherine Keener. This is one that you obviously shouldn't approach with high expectations if you are going to watch it which you absolutely shouldn't. If you love any of the actors involved be prepared to see them wasted and if you like the book this is based on, which I understand has positive critical reception, be prepared to see it squandered.
Absolutely loved it. As quirky as they come. Got the impression everyone was having a blast making the movie.
Accidental Love is a comedy about a girl and a guy and how at a proposal the girl gets into an accident and then the guy takes back his proposal and then it turns into this light-hearted political dig at the American health system. This movie has Jessica Biel from Seventh Heaven and Jake Gyllenhaal and Tracey Morgan plus the rest of the cast is great, Not a bad little date/family movie with parental guidance recommended.
