In 480 B.C. a state of war exists between Persia, led by King Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro), and Greece. At the Battle of Thermopylae, Leonidas (Gerard Butler), king of the Greek city state of Sparta, leads his badly outnumbered warriors against the massive Persian army. This depersonalizes the major players in the battle between the Spartans and the Persians to such a degree that one ends up feeling more sympathy for the shields that end up receiving the brunt of the sword blows and arrow piercings.

Very cool story, artistry, and action. Very violent. Excellent comic book style movie, based on a Frank Miller graphic novel, similar style to Sin City.

I really enjoyed the big buff oily spartan men in this movie, watching them sweat and bleed as they take down their enemies is extremely arousing. I could feel the sexual tension between Leonidas and Ephialites when they had their conversation. I wish they had a little less action and a little more "action" if you know what I mean.

300 may well feature Gerard Butler’s finest performance. As King Leonidas, Butler brings commanding intensity and conviction, anchoring a film that honors the story, the country, and the warriors it portrays. When it premiered in March 2007, Zack Snyder was hailed as a revitalizing force in modern filmmaking, a reputation that still resonates in 2026. The action choreography is striking, amplified by Snyder’s use of slow-motion editing, which becomes the film's defining stylistic signature. Snyder and Kurt Johnstad adapt the source material effectively, preserving its mythic tone. Tyler Bates’ score adds power, while the set pieces and costumes convincingly capture the film’s stylised historical setting. Above all, Larry Fong’s cinematography stands as the film’s greatest technical achievement, perfectly complementing Snyder’s direction and Butler’s commanding performance.
