See more Irish S @RT35490534 Mar 18 Eddie Murphy made three San Francisco cop movies, 48 Hours and 48 Hours II & Metro with Metro being the unofficial trilogy to those movies. It's not the same characters from 48 Hours but it's got the same vibe which is great if someone enjoyed the 48 Hours movies. Murphy is a SFPD hostage negotiator working with a young SWAT officer played by Rappaport. For me what makes this movie age well is there are ZERO CGI special effects with the car chases and explosions. There is a car chase through San Francisco which never gets mentioned in great car chases but it's a wild one involving a San Francisco trolley. Who doesn't love a car chase through San Francisco?!. Also, I think this is the last time Eddie Murphy does his patented laugh in a movie. If someone liked Beverly Hills Cop and 48 Hours, watch Metro, it will fill the void. See more mike p @Mike17807 Jan 7 This movie won't move you one way or the other. But its not a snoozer nor do I think it's a bad movie. Its a middle of the road action movie. I watched it for free on disney+. Not sure id pay to rent the movie. But, I enjoyed watching it either way. See more Allan C @RT15713161 Sep 21 Blandly entertaining Murphy action flick, stolen by Michael Wincott Metro (1997) *** Eddie Murphy plays a police negotiator hunting down a thief who killed his partner. And get this, Murphy is saddled with an annoying young new partner, who he learns to appreciate by the end of the film. The film is not as jokey as BEVERLY HILLS COP or 48HRS and aspires to be more of a straight action film, although Murphy has some quips here and there. I'm guessing this was the type of action-oriented film Murphy was hoping to do with the ill-fated BEVERLY HILLS COP 3 (where the director wanted more comedy). While METRO hits all the action film cliches and brings nothing new to the genre, it's a comfort food type of film that's blandly satisfying in its own unchallenging fashion.  The filmmakers make good use of the San Francisco setting, an action film cliche unto itself, and the film features a solid cast that besides Murphy includes Michael Rapport (TRUE ROMANCE, ATYPICAL), Art Evans (DIE HARD 2, TRESPASS), Donal Logue (BLADE, GOTHAM), Paul Ben-Victor (THE WIRE), and best of all is gravelly voice Michael Wincott (THE CROW, STRANGE DAYS) as the villain. Watching this made me want to go down a rabbit hole of Michael Wincott flicks. If I do, I think I'd want to start with the corny Alex Cross movie, ALONG CAME A SPIDER, where he was a fantastic villain. Overall, I'll probably completely forget everything about this movie in a day or two, but I was entertained while watching it. FUN FACT! This was the first major theatrical score by Toto keyboardist Steve Porcaro.  AI CAPSUL REVIEW: Metro is a formulaic but watchable Eddie Murphy action vehicle about a police negotiator chasing his partner’s killer. The San Francisco setting and solid cast add some flavor, but it’s gravel-voiced villain Michael Wincott who truly steals the show. See more Jelisije J @jjosifovic Sep 12 A nice 90's action movie that tone felt a bit off when Eddie Murphy cant decide whether or not to a serious or funny character in his own movie.
