When timid bank clerk Stanley Ipkiss (Jim Carrey) discovers a magical mask containing the spirit of the Norse god Loki, his entire life changes. While wearing the mask, Ipkiss becomes a supernatural playboy exuding charm and confidence which allows him to catch the eye of local nightclub singer Tina Carlyle (Cameron Diaz). Unfortunately, under the mask's influence, Ipkiss also robs a bank, which angers junior crime lord Dorian Tyrell (Peter Greene), whose goons get blamed for the heist.

The gangland plot is flimsy (bad guy Peter Greene wears too much eyeliner), and the jokes are erratic, but it's a far better showcase for Carrey's comic-from-Uranus talent than Ace Ventura.

Given any thought, the morality of the film is, itself, questionable as it tries to let Ipkiss ride off into the sunset with Tina without paying for crimes he is responsible for regardless of whether he did them while wearing the enchanted mask or not.

Jim Carrey’s versatility and comedic timing carry the film almost single-handedly. Without an actor with his physical expressiveness and charisma, the movie could have easily fallen into self-parody.

I’m not gonna lie, The Mask is absolutely hilarious and incredibly entertaining. The movie feels like a live-action cartoon because of the exaggerated expressions and wild energy. Jim Carrey delivers a dynamic and unforgettable performance that makes every scene feel energetic and over-the-top in the best way. The colorful visuals and fast-paced comedy make it fun, creative, and unique. Overall, it’s a classic 90s comedy that stands out for its originality and pure entertainment value.

Greetings from Lithuania. "The Mask" (1994) is a classic fantasy, slapstick comedy starring Jim Carrey. This film made him a huge A list star back in the day, and this film still hold very well in 2026. I've recently bought the excellent release on 4K UHD and watched this film and was surprised of how much i enjoyed it - i haven't seen it in years. This is slapstick comedy that does have great old school comedy in it, one that rarely can be seen today. The characters of Mask itself is star of the film - and one that is unforgettable really. Special effects do hold very good today. Music, sound design, make-up, costumes - all here are very well made. Overall, "The Mask" is a classic for a reason. This film is funny, entertaining and very well made.

Well, I found that Jim Carrey was perfect for the guy, but the story definitely has cheesy moments. Sometimes, but only sometimes I found Jim Carrey annoying believe it or not. But it's pretty good. If you're tired and you've just watched an action thriller then this is probably one I'd watch.
