It’s not a great comedy or a masterpiece, but it is also far from the failure it’s often made out to be. The main problem with Oscar lies in expectations. Stallone, closely associated with Rocky and Rambo, was cast in a gangster farce built on rapid-fire dialogue, misunderstandings, and a clearly theatrical convention. Many viewers and critics simply couldn’t accept this shift in tone. Yet the film deliberately plays with absurdity—the plot can be illogical and chaotic at times, but that’s a feature of the genre, not a filmmaking flaw. Oscar doesn’t measure up to classic gangster films or top-tier comedies, but as a light, intelligent farce it works surprisingly well. It’s a movie worth watching without prejudice—not as "Stallone’s flop," but as a competent, if imperfect, piece of entertainment.
